Just reading that thread a week or so ago about whether you would wear tights when running set me thinking about all the things we do or dont do ...I complied a little list ...

1 - When passing other runners do you wave, say hello , nod , or just keep the head down and grunt...( I put the hand up and say Hi)
2 - Do you speed up a bit and try to look like you are flying fit and not at all struggling (I think we all do it )
3- Do you try and catch runners ahead of you (defo ! )
4- when driving , if you spot a runners or a group of runners , do you slow down to see do you know any of them and comment to yourself about how they are going (my kids slag me about it ! )
5-Cotton socks or good running socks ( Aldi or Lidls running socks are best for me )
6- Peaked Cap or Wooly booble hat in winter ( I've tried both and prefer the wooly or good quality running bobble hat covering the ears )
7- Sunglasses or not (cant run with sunglasses myself )
8-When out for a run and you get stopped at lights or crossing the road , do you continue to jog on the spot ( why bother,, take the rest I say ! )
9-how manyt tech tops have you got at this stage ...Bring back the cotton teeshirt at races I say ( how many tech tops do we need ..they last for ever ..used to have tonnes of cotton ones but all gone now , but have too many tech tops )
    10- sports drink or water
11- Runners World or Running & Fitness or Irish Runner ...or all three ...or even Running Weekly if you are truly devoted
12-how many running books have you got, bought , borrowed
13- Gloves or cold hands in winter
14- have you a pair of spikes
16- have you trained on Christmas Day
17- what the latest time of the day you ever ran
    18- what the earliest time
19- ever thrown up after a race or training session
    20- Garmin or stop watch
21-standard greeting to a friend after a race...is it ' How did you go'
21-standard answer ...is it something like ' I struggled a bit ' ...not many will say ' I felt great today or Magic run today '

must be plenty more of these quirky things we do or dont do ...
answers only in your mind guys ...just a little bit of amusement

I do tend to nod, but only very subtly, I think I may need to make it a bit more obvious though as I've been getting zero response from a lot of runners that I pass lately.

I'm not aware of any speeding up when I spot other people going the same way, usually. I do notice myself spotting people running a lot more though when I'm driving anywhere.

Can only wear my bobble hat when skiing. I'll wear shades in all but the gloomiest weather though just to keep the wind/ rain/ flying stuff out of my eyes.

I'd arrange my routes so that I'd always run along the length of a busy road that I need to cross and then just wait for the gap in the traffic before scampering across. Can't bear to be standing in the same spot waiting for a light to change.

Yes, and I did one more session than whatever Woddle claims he did.

I used to say hi to any runners but after today I'm giving up. Passed 3 in the park and said hi but all had IPODS on and in another world. IPods have their place and I use one here and there on long runs but at least know how to nod at others. Most "fitness" runners don't know running etiquette.

1 - When passing other runners do you wave, say hello , nod , or just keep the head down and grunt... Say Good Morning, get pi**ed off because of the lack of reply
2 - Do you speed up a bit and try to look like you are flying fit and not at all struggling - no, don't think so
3- Do you try and catch runners ahead of you - yup!
4- when driving , if you spot a runners or a group of runners , do you slow down to see do you know any of them and comment to yourself about how they are going - no, just wishing I was out there myself
5-Cotton socks or good running socks - cotton for training, good socks for racing
6- Peaked Cap or Wooly booble hat in winter - neither!
7- Sunglasses or not - Not
8-When out for a run and you get stopped at lights or crossing the road , do you continue to jog on the spot - sprint across the road on my rare outings in Dublin. They don't do lights on my normal roads in the sticks
9-how manyt tech tops have you got at this stage ...Bring back the cotton teeshirt at races I say - no way! You cannot possibly have too many tech tops, but you can have way too many cotton tops (I know cause I do)

1 - When passing other runners do you wave, say hello , nod , or just keep the head down and grunt... Say hello (if I'm able), or give a smile to be polite. I find most other runner/walkers are friendly and acknowledge the effort.
2 - Do you speed up a bit and try to look like you are flying fit and not at all struggling - no, don't think so
3- Do you try and catch runners ahead of you - Yes, but rarely suceed.
4- when driving , if you spot a runners or a group of runners , do you slow down to see do you know any of them and comment to yourself about how they are going - I do look, and always think fair dues, and then wish I was out their too.
5-Cotton socks or good running socks - cotton does me fine.
6- Peaked Cap or Wooly booble hat in winter - neither - in the cold, a headband yokey that keeps my ears warm.
7- Sunglasses or not - Not
8-When out for a run and you get stopped at lights or crossing the road , do you continue to jog on the spot - Where I run, there are no traffic lights. There are quite a few junctions, but I find drivers very polite, and wave me on, so there's usually no stopping.
9-how manyt tech tops have you got at this stage ...Bring back the cotton teeshirt at races I say - 3 tech tops - need to do more racing!
10- sports drink or water - water. I've never tried a sports drink. Too afraid it might not agree with me, so I'll stick with water.
11- Runners World or Running & Fitness or Irish Runner ...or all three ...or even Running Weekly if you are truly devoted - Don't buy runner mags, I've enough with the rubish celeb gossip ones, that I seem addicted to.
12-how many running books have you got, bought , borrowed - One! It arrived last week. The non runners guide to the marathon.
13- Gloves or cold hands in winter - gloves, only if really biting cold.
14- have you a pair of spikes - Not since my school days, which are long gone.
16- have you trained on Christmas Day - Nope. I'd be divorced. Plus, I'm usually in the kitchen before 7.00am preparing the turkey and baking the ham.
17- what the latest time of the day you ever ran - 7.30 pm
18- what the earliest time - 6.00am - my first ever outside run, on the beach, where I knew nobody would see me :o
19- ever thrown up after a race or training session - no, but nearly did yesterday on a hilly mile 5 :o
20- Garmin or stop watch - Stop watch
21-standard greeting to a friend after a race...is it ' How did you go' - yup
22-standard answer ...is it something like ' I struggled a bit ' ...not many will say ' I felt great today or Magic run today ' - usually it's struggled a bit, but happy enough.

    A 3.30am run TFB - jebus!

18- what the earliest time 06.00
19- ever thrown up after a race or training session first ever race I did
20- Garmin or stop watch Trusty casio

4- when driving , if you spot a runners or a group of runners , do you slow down to see do you know any of them and comment to yourself about how they are going Bizarrely, when I see the other runners from the car I always feel guilty that I'm not out running. 6- Peaked Cap or Wooly booble hat in winter Beanie in winter, nothing in warm weather
7- Sunglasses or not - Not

13- Gloves or cold hands in winter Gloves
14- have you a pair of spikes No
16- have you trained on Christmas Day Best day of the year to get out for a run so, yes
17- what the latest time of the day you ever ran 11:30pm
18- what the earliest time 4:50am
19- ever thrown up after a race or training session No, but I have puked with nerves twice before events- 1. Before Eireman last year (when I thought the swim was still on in the stormy sea) and 2. Around 3am the night before DCM last year (my first marathon)
20- Garmin or stop watch 310XT - my Lady Garmin Dominatrix - I'm always handcuffed to her
    21-standard greeting to a friend after a race..."Well?"
21-standard answer "OK - was well shagged at mile X but it came together well again at mile Y" ... mind you, my DCM 2009 answer was a little more prosaic and emotional

Some people just love to fill out forms. :)

They can't give list like that and then say not to fill it out. If there is one point to discuss then just give that one, if there is 50 points then the only way is to just go through the list. Still doesn't make for much discussion, but, meh.

Seems I love reading lists as well as filling them out. Funny to see how many things you do in common with eveyone else. Esp the guilt when you see someone running and youre not. Thats plain weird.

Went for a run along a canal today and passed a few people out running, not one of them made any kind of recognition of my presence though. A couple of them had earphones in, but I don't think that is an excuse on a mostly deserted canal towpath for not noticing other people. I was wary of being too over excitable in trying to greet them though for fear that one or other of us might end up in the drink as a result.

I should probably ditch the shades as well so that I can better try and make eye contact as approaching them which may result in more of a response. But then I won't look as cool, be able to run as fast and I'll get blinded by the big glowy orange thing in the sky.
