BTEA - Fas Course count towards??

    Hi,

I am currently unemployed and claiming Job Seekers Allowance and I have applied for a college course, which will start in September. I have applied for numerous jobs and recently had a job interview, which was unsuccessful. Going back to college seems like the only option available to me. I have been told by my local jobs facilitator that I will be eligible for Back to Education Allowance. Between now and September I would like to do a FAS course.

Will the time spent doing the FAS course count towards obtaining BTEA?

    Thanks

Time spent on BTEA, VTOS, Full-time FÁS/Fáilte Ireland Training course, Youthreach, FIT, Community Employment Schemes, Social Economy Programme, Rural Social Scheme, Back to Work Scheme, FÁS Job Initiative or Job Assist may count towards the qualifying period. You may go directly from one of the above schemes to Back to Education Allowance provided you were getting one of the qualifying social welfare payments listed above, before you started the scheme. You must start your approved course of study within four weeks of leaving the scheme. Otherwise you must be getting a qualifying social welfare payment immediately before starting an approved course of study

So, I am getting JSA now, I want to do a FAS course that will last until mid june and then sign on again until September when my course will start. Does anyone know if that will suffice? The above is a bit sketchy to me on my cirumstances....maybe I'm a bit thick! :P

Edit: By the way eyesofvenus...Thank you for the link

What that means is that time spent while doing the FAS course will count towards the time needed to be on JSA to qualify. I think it's in the link, it states Second level = 3 months on JSA and third level = 12 months on JSA, so lets say you have been on JSA for 8 months then do FAS course for 4 months, as long as you sign back on before course starts in septmeber i think you'll qualify, maybe someone else here can word it a bit better lol

You have worded it perfectly, even a thicko like me can understand. Thanks again.

BTW - By september I will have been signing on/Doing a FAS course for 9 months. My local jobs facilitator has told me this will be enough to get the BTEA. :)

Yeah it's stated in first part of notes 9 months can be enough too depending on circumstances, and you're not a "thicko", every document to do with SW is a mess

You're right about the documents. I suppose their are so many people with differing circumstances that makes it difficult to put together documentation that gives definitive answers for everyone.
