Can anyone shed some light on this? Reg checks out on mywheels. Who had it when new,as im presuming its first owner was irish?
The add says its a 1992 Mercedes 300 CE 24 Valve TWIN TURBO
wide body styling with 300 BHP cost 100,000 when new 68000 miles.
If i was to guess id say the somewhat over the top body kit wasnt on the car when new? He is saying its unique because of the kit i suppose?

looks very much like one of those garish "Koenig" tuning kits
    w126versI(2).JPG

Not sure if they ever officially (ahemm :D) did a W124 though

Also, to my knowledge Mercedes never did a (petrol) turbo in the W124, never mind a bi-turbo

    Carcheologist,
you asked who owned it originally, I have never seen that car before ,but I will bet 50 euro(will pay to charity if wrong) it would have belonged to Jennings the lorry man.

It may not be an original Irish car.
Not all the "1" regs may get snapped up for every county every year.
Theres only so many Lord Mayors and Kavanaghs can only afford so many buses:)

Id say it is genuine irish as im fairly sure the practice of withholding the first 200 numbers hadnt began back in 1992. Plus its only the Cork,Dublin and Waterford Mayors(is that them all?) got the first reg of their respective counties.

Hi,first post, although long time lurker here. Aforementioned truck
dealer did have a similar car, although it was red, and sale of
car to another haulier ended up in court case due to engine not being able to handle twin turbo set-up(Case reported in Irish Indo) Happened 10-12 years ago.

Looks like a home-made bodge job to me. That ill-fitting bonnet is off an SEC and actually covers the fog lights in the original W124 headlight units, which are still in place. I'm sure I saw one of those steering wheels in Halford's recently too...

It is Jennings old car, but the court case had nothing to do with turbos, more to do with "mileage correction" AFAIK !

..................I know this car well and it IS the Jennings car. Its current owner told me it was red and was a court case job. There were lots of issues with the engine too !

Apparantly, and I heard this from another source there were so eyebrows raised about the reg number also as nobody copped on to the fact that 92 OY 1 could also be misread as an old Dublin reg 92 OYI

All of those SEC conversions cover the inner part of the headlights. Its a lovely car, not everyones cup of tea but hey.....

I've had my hands on this car too in the past(it belonged at one stage to a friend of mine) I have a pic somewhere of it in red...very Miami Vice!!!

The twin turbo was at that time a "Turbo Technics" conversion...and it was badged a "1000CE" as far as I remember.

I have a niggling memory in my head also that this car was originally not red,but a dark grey or black.....may be mistaken!

Oh my god is all I can say!!! Talk about a blast from the past!!

The car was originally black, when we owned it, it was red (will post pic but can't operate pics thru iPhone and laptop broke!) and now the grey does absolutely nothing for it:confused:

If you do a search on google for "1000ce" it should bring up the court case brief info, or similar searches.

There was supposedly 3 of these in the world, one was owned by a Formula 1 driver, the other one was out in Oz somewhere. This particular one was unfortunately a cheaper version of these which can't have the info disclosed hence the court case.

Defo a savage car with consequenses although a head turner and depending on how the engine is now 300bhp is underestimated from what I remember when we had it.

Would definately love the car back if it was genuine and a lot less **** it has caused

Another can of worms type thread. Theres alot of interesting history behind that merc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 EvojeepGal

God help the new owner and best of luck I say:D

Pity the silver does absolutely nothin for the car, always was a dream to have(apart from ****!!) it back but **** don't encourage buyers, lol, especially previous buyers when interested!

Would still love to sort a photo shoot with this car if the owner is interested for proper publicity and shows????

If the owner or someone who knows the owner please pm me, I'd love to see it again.
If I had the funds I'd consider buying it bak less the mechanical issues was such a power and head turner, Id love to know the service history available currently :)

What was the court case about? I googled '1000ce' and couldn't find anything.
