im going to be obvious and put a bit on Rivaliste (R Walsh) and take a chance on Copper Bleu (R Johnson)

copper bleu ....bit old now ... i think ruby could it for me in dat race

I think Atouchbetweenacara has a good chance in the Byrne Group Plate at 4.00, Venetia Williams has a good record in this race, not much form so far this year, but usually comes good this time of the year

Okay here goes nothing, two picks per race - something likely and a longer shot that could well place.

    1.30 Rivaliste 8.00 & Hey Big Spender 11.00 (okay I couldn't find a long shot)
    2.05 Smoking Aces 12.00 & Cross Kennon 36.00
    2.40 Tranquil Sea 5.00 & Deep Purple 26.00
3.20 without BB Tidal bay 5.00 & War of Attrition 13.00
    4.00 Sunnyhillboy 9.00 & Mount Oscar 29.00
    4.40 Galant Nuit 11.00 & Imoncloudnine 17.00

After disaster of day 2 - I reckon the ground is the big problem for the punters. Word from Mullins is that the ground is no more good (with soft in places) - if it were in Ireland, it would be riding as good summer ground. He is annoyed they are not watering the course more.

Anyway here comes the bounce back tomorrow and 2 for each race:

Jewson: Rivalliste (W) and Dave's Dream e/w (exacta)
    Pertemps: Smokin Aces & Ainama
Ryanair: Tranquil Sea & Deep Purple (E/W)
World H: Karabak & War of Att
    Byrne: Atouchbetween & Chapoturgeon
Kim Muir: Gallant Nuit & Oodachee

    Will do lucky 15 e/w:

    Rivalliste
    Smokin Aces
    Tranquil Sea
    Chapoturgeon
    Gallant Nuit.

Good luck tomorrow on what looks another easy card.

    JEWSON NOVICES´ HANDICAP CHASE:

I'm going to back Rivaliste & Nicanor in this race.

I'm backing Rivaliste as he's been kept for this race since his Sandown run. He's running off the same mark as Chapoturgeon (last years winner). A Nicholls/Walsh combination at the bottom of the handicap has to be appreciated.

I'm backing Nicanor as he's got some good form lines and has been second to two quality horses in An Cathaoir Mor (3rd to Captain Cee Bee in Naas) and Kempes. In his most recent start he beat Done Deal. Done Deal has since franked the form of that race. He won't be phased by the good ground as he's raced here on good ground and beaten Denman. He isn't the same horse as he was before the set-backs but he should be a good each-way shout.

    PERTEMPS FINAL:

I'm backing Alfie Sherrin in this.

This is an awful race for favourites but Alfie Sherrin has some good form on his side. His Newbury race has turned out to be very good from a form point of view. He looked quite green in that race and should certainly come on for the run. He hasn't been given the same time between his last race and this one which is a bit of a worry but I'm going to stick with the Nicholls/Walsh partnership in this. I'll only be having a small interest as the race is certainly more competitive than the betting suggests.

    RYANAIR CHASE:

I think this is a wide open race. The form for Poquelin and Tranquil Sea is pretty similar. Tranquil Sea won with ease over course and distance but he did jump out to his right over one or two of the fences. For me I think Poquelin makes very hard work out of his races. I think Poquelin will appreciate the drying ground more so than Tranquil Sea.

Personally I think Schindlers is worth an e/w punt. He'll appreciate the better ground and also the step back in trip. He's currently 12/1, which to me is much better value than either of the front two based on form.

Barber Shop is another one who will appreciate the step back in trip.

    LADBROKES WORLD HURDLE GRADE 1:

Big Bucks should win this on the bridle. I'm going to resist the temptation to hit heavy though as he is a slightly quirky horse and the odds just don't represent value. I'm going to back Tidal Bay who looks like to follow Big Bucks past the post.

    BYRNE GROUP PLATE:

Another wide open race. I really don't know who to go for in this one. I might go with Made In Taipan (a horse that owes me a win!) as the form shown when finishing half a length second to Big Zeb would surely be good enough to put him in the mix. He's a big price at 25/1. There's been 4 25/1 or greater winners of this race in the last decade.

I'll probably go through this one in more detail and maybe have a small punt on something else in the field too.

FULKE WALWYN KIM MUIR CHALLENGE CUP:

I'm going to back Nostringsattached in this one. I've been told that he's in good form and JT fancies his chances on this one.

I also think Nina has a good chance in this one too. Might have a small interest in it.

One thing to be wary of is that one the last decade only eight (not 1000% sure) favourites have won any of the races above. That's about a 16% strike rate so I wouldn't be hoping for a brilliant day for favourite backers.

Now all I need is the lot of them to come in and might just about break even for the festival!!

As you can see I got bored of writing and the last few races lack the level of detail of the first few. I'll also probably end up backing Tranquil Sea for some unknown reason.

Tranquil sea in the Ryanair and a Big Bucks Lump on Big Bucks to try and recoup some of the losses so far.

It's been a tough start but sure nobody died.

Like everyone (I guess !) , I'm down, but not out. Sizing Europe, Sanctuaire and a few euro on Brian O'Connell at Down Royal yesterday (purely to spite McCririck :)), have me in reasonable shape.
Today is one for 6 outsiders and hope for one winner or two places to break even........
    1.30 - Copper Bleu
    2.05 - Kayf Aramis
    2.40 - Scotsirish
    3.20 - Time for Rupert
4.00 - My Petra and Aigle D'Or (Would hate to back the wrong Henderson horse !)
    4.40 - Boychuk

Best of luck, take it easy today, keep some for tomorrow....

Cheltenham is a strange one this year - what's happening to the favourites?

Thank god for Big Zeb, Menorah and Peddlers Cross - after two full days I guess it's good to be even Stephen.

Today I am backing these three beauties - what do you think?

    China Rock ( 10/1) - 1:30 Jewson Chase

    Tranquil Sea (4/1) - 2:40 Ryanair Chase

War Of Attrition (33/1) - 3:20 World Hurdle

Good luck today and come on Imperial Commander in the Gold Cup - my rent is on your back.
