St Patrick's Day, a national holiday on a Wednesday how awkward is that? If they want to really promote St Patrick's Day as a proper festival and build tourism for the ocassion should it not be on a Monday every year and make a proper long week-end out of it. Say the Monday nearest/just before the 17th in case it clashes with a very early Easter.

Should St. Patrick's day be moved to a Monday? 36 votes

Yes, make it a long week-end every year.

totally agree. Cant agree more. Wednesday is useless for people without vacation built up, and a paid for businesses where people take 5 days off, for two holidays. Wrong time of year anyway.

But if it's on a Wednesday the tourists will be more likely to stay through the weekend, so they'll be here longer.

You just want a 3 day weekend.

Its nice to have a long weekend, but thats a ridiculous suggestion, it would mean we'd be all in work for paddys day which would completely take away from it being a public holiday.

Perhaps if on years when it occurs on a Wednesday we could cancel Easter and transfer the 2x days we get for that back to March in order to make a nice long 5day break of it.

    That'd be ok with me.

A lot of American cities celebrate it on the Sunday before the 17th.

I've always said that St Patricks day should be a 2 day holiday as let's be honest, the day after, tons of people need the day off to get rid of the hangover. It's a bit like giving people New years eve off and expecting them in New years day.

To anyone who is worried about struggling into work tomorrow I have a suggestion - Don't drink so much.

Let's celebrate St. Patrick's Day on, you know..... St. Patrick's Day!
