Playing Stackstown soon and having never played it before I was hoping some here could give me a run down of some of the holes? Is there anything in particular that you need to bear in mind when playing this course? I've heard it's quite hilly in places so I'm guessing it can play rather long if a wind gets up. Are the greens normally slow? Cheers.

The course is not long, so unless it's a gale you shouldn't have too much trouble. I don't recall one flat hole - you're either going up, down or sideways. My only advice would be to play sensibly off the tee: you don't have to be long, so use the slopes to your advantage. You can attack almost every green as only a few are defended by tough bunkering.

    Hope you're fit.

I agree with kevin here, having played stackstown lots of times tee shot is everything and as stated you do not need to be long. On holes playing uphill they generally play a club longer than you think and again a club less downhill, common sense I guess but its easy to forget about it up here as every shot tends to involve a slope.

It is a hilly course but I dont find it tiring, I have played some courses with less slopes and been knackered after a round but i dont find that the case up there.

    Enjoy

As noted it's pretty hilly so club selection can be hard. The first is directly up a steepish hill but isn't too long, so just hit the fairway then take enough club on the second shot. It's easy to be a club or two short on the uphills and a club long on the downhills, so keep an eye on where the trouble is (usually at the back, going long into trees). It's quite easy to get into serious trouble by missing the fairway to wrong side so it's best to take a shorter club off most tees imo.

Thanks for the feedback guys....it certainly sounds like it's not a course you should be blasting away with driver all day long but more a case of being cute off the tee to leave yourself with the best chance of avoiding trouble and hitting the green in reg. Going to take a quick look at the website now.
