Shin splints

Ok, so I've over done it!

I've had about 6 running sessions in total, the last two being 5k each. I'm a total beginner and now I think i'm getting shin splints. I know now that I over did it and did too much too fast. The question is what do I do now. It's not that painful at all and I ran through it last night without much difficulty, but I can certainly feel it. Is this likely to just get worse if I continue?

Someone else told me that they too got shin splints when they first started. For a while afterwards, she ran in her MBT shoes and this sorted it out. Now she runs in ordinary running shoes and hasn't looked back and the shin splints never came back.

Should I just rest for a few days or scale back a bit. Is there any magic answer to the problem?

You should get a professional's advice to ensure it heals correctly.

Other than that, no medical advice can be dispensed here.
