Seriously thinking about buying one of these at some stage in the near future.

Anybody here ever own one? Or know someone who owns one? Would like to know what their like. Was/is it reliable, comfortable, what sort of fuel economy would i expect?
I would have to say decent reliability is important to me.

Ive read a lot of general reviews about them but that'll always be second best to owner's opinions.

    cheers.

Haven't owned one myself but recall getting a drive in a 406 hdi taxi. As I recall it had something around 195k miles on the clock and seemed pretty smooth and refined for the short journey I took in it. Of all French cars a diesel Peugeot is maybe the only one I might consider buying.

    Aswell as a 407 i've got a 406 Td (96) heading towards 213k...I have to say
its the beat car i've ever owned..:)
The hdi's are easier on diesel but the old 1.9 td's will go for ever...
One thing the original clutch is beginning to slip @212k.....:)
also the rear droplinks may need replacement every 40kish..but these are cheap to replace.
I'd rather hop into my 14 year old 406 than my 04 407 as its more comfortable over bad roads.

i had a 406, thought it was 1.8 petrol. As a car in general: BEST CAR EVER OWNED! reliable as hell, misses was driving it from cork to Ennis and back 5-6 days per weak, for 5 months. Only changed oil and brake pads.

sold it to mine friend and after 2 years she is driving it and newer had any problems! just passed nct aswell, and she didnt do a thing for it a year!!!

comfortable aswell. I would even buy it back now...

The 90bhp Hdi is pretty good powerwise and the 110bhp is that bit better but it will have a dpf which may need replacement around 110kish.
how you tell the difference between the 90 - 110 is the 110 has an intercooler tucked in beside the rad...well right side of rad...:)

As argosy2006 said you could pick up a well speced 406 with all the bells and whistles at good value....

    Thanks for the info lads.
I'm hearing a lot of good things about these cars.
The other car i'm thinking of is a mazda 323/626 diesel but the peugeot seems to be winning me over a bit. Might not be as reliable as the mazda but its better in a few other areas.

And the fact that for once i won't be buying yet another jap car appeals to me. Ive nothing against jap cars of course, i'm just looking for a change.
