Due to the recession the company i work for have said that we will be going on short time next month. just wondering which works out better 3 day week or week on week off as I think we have a choice!!

I suppose the question you should be asking is more which works out better for you.
I worked 4 10-hour days/week and it suited me at the time, but was working at the weekends, which i prefer now.
week on week off might be nice to do for a while...

though 3 day week = 3/5 (6/10) of your salary
where week on/week off is 1/5 (5/10) of your salary
so if your wages are going to be cut like that - it is something to keep in mind.
