whats the best way to increase power on a 140bhp golf tsi? what kind of results could you expect from engine remapping?

bigger turbo and a remap I'd imagine would be the best route for a big jump in power

Not sure if I'd like to be pushing out more than 140bhp from a 1.4 and expecting it to be reliable.

bigger turbo????? isnt there two turbo;s on those 1.4's? as per the previous I woud leave well enough alone.....140bhp out of a 1.4 is a hell of a lot of poke

There's two turbo's on Rx7's taking them out and replacing them with one single bigger turbo along with other work can get them to 400+ bhp ;)

I would agree though that the 1.4 is probably pushing its limits at 140bhp and upgraded engine work would probably be needed to safely push anything more

What about a 170tsi turbo-supercharger setup? Be expensive however, probably cheaper to trade in against a proper 170tsi or GTi.

Actually Revo tuning can get 200hp for you, don't know how long the engine would last but they are a reputible company known for VW tuning:

Remember that you will increase wear on your clutch and may need better brakes/tyres (GTi brakes or uprated pads?)

Big repair bills would be the one that springs to mind!

with respect, going this route of upgrading turbo chargers will run into thousands.....might as well get a 2.0 gti where there's much more leeway to tune. I upgraded a turbo charger on an old 911 I have....by god, bloody expensive.

Being honest your better off running with breathing mods.

Take the cat out, get a performance intake system and make sure the intake is well away from the engine to prevent heatsoak, or get a performance panel filter.

Or buy a Gti, that engine is stressed enough as it is.

ditto...those 1.4's have given enough trouble in their standard guise....go for the 2.0 litre lump and the world of affordable tuning with reliabilty becomes a reality
