Wiggle Pricing Error

I have posted in another thread about an error I have discovered in Wiggle's application of Irish VAT, but thought this is probably worth a thread of it's own

As mentioned in my other post, I believe they are currently charging about 2.1% too much following the change in VAT rates in both the UK and Ireland on 1 January (except for UK zero-rated items such as helmets which are correctly priced) - this is the same whether you order in Euros or Sterling

I have e-mailed Wiggle about this, and have so far only received an automated response.

Assuming they accept it is an error, I suspect this will apply to all orders made since 1 January. I am not sure if they have an oblgation to refund the difference on past orders, but I will ask (I have only made a couple of relatively small orders in this time, so the amount involved will be small in my case)

If they agree to this, then hopefully we have a precedent and they may do the same for any other orders placed since 1 January (including those using discount codes)

I will post an update when I hear more from them

How long ago did you email them?

    around 12.40

Their initial respose is that they have effectively absorbed the UK VAT increase. I have written back stating that this means they are charging Irish customers more (net of VAT) than UK customers. If they agree, then the question is whether this is discriminatory under EU law (I suspect not - I have seen examples where I am charged 50%+ more hiring a car in the UK using an Irish address than when using a UK one)

Even if they don't accept there is an error, it may prompt them to bring the prices back in line (on a net of VAT basis)

They've e-mailed me back today to say they have effectively absorbed the UK VAT increase, but will be putting the price back up "shortly"

In the meantime you can all rest assured - Wiggle really are making more profit from it's Irish customers than it's UK ones:rolleyes: - perhaps a(nother) reason to consider other retailers such as CRC and Slane that charge the same (both net of VAT and VAT inclusive) whether you are based in the UK or Ireland
