Throttle Body Replacement

    Hi,

My VW Polo recently started revving itself whilst idle and the EPC light came on.

After checking the brakelights and cleaning the induction cable my mechanic told me I needed a new throttle body & to source it myself.

Ive been looking and its €560 with MSL (dont worry I know not to deal with those jokers) so Im looking at 2nd hand parts for around €100 - €200.

Does anyone know roughly how much I should pay the mechanic for the labour of replacing it?

    Cheers

If you have the part and unsure of fitting it yourself,
about an hours labour cost form a friendly mechanic would
be reasonable. Ring a few indy mechanic's.

Don't forget to get a new replacement gasket from VW also. It takes about 10 minutes to change based on other cars I have worked on (ford + honda). Usually 4 bolts,an electrical connector and the throttle cable to switch

Try Ebay for a reconditioned one, I got a TB for my Corolla recently for £30, it arrived in mint condition and worked perfectly.

Also try Traynors in Armagh, one of the biggest breakers on these islands and they have a van that travels to towns in the republic once a week.

What exactly is wrong with the TB?

Try cleaning it yourself its really easy, get some carb cleaner (or oven cleaner :P) and some ear buds and clean out all the gunk.

It can make a big difference to a rough idle and can smooth out the power band. I did mine last weekend and it helped a lot.

Worth a go anyway before replacing it!

Apparantly its the wrong part for the car, so its causing problems with the electronics, so its a matter of just getting it replaced rather than cleaning it.

Tried having it reset with the VAGCOM and having it cleaned, they fix it for a week or so but then the light comes back and it starts revving etc.

    Thanks for the replies lads.
