    Anyone know the cheapest place to pick up an elite+ online these days? Just the hub, and preferably a 24 hole one.

    wheelsmith have complete wheels from £645+£20 shipping.

    cyclepowermeters is from £600 hub only.

    Wiggle has Elite+ hub only for £540 (not sure what discount level, if any).

    CRC is €677.

    I was going to say £568 with Irish VAT applied - but

    Wiggle seem to have the VAT screwed up - the price differential is the same as taking 15% off (the old UK rate - now back to 17.5%) and adding the new Irish rate (21%) on

    I tried this with a few other things on the Wiggle website (and in particular with helmets where there is no UK VAT) with the same result (helmets have the correct 21% difference).

    Hence assuming they are correctly applying UK VAT (and I am pretty sure they are), they are actually overcharging Irish customers at present (approximately 2.1% when you work through the arithmetic, except for helmets which are right)

    EDIT - I have just e-mailed them about this

    To be honest it is too late for a PM to be of use to you this season.

    Something I had not considered :o So I'd better off waiting until september then and getting one for next years base period when improvements could be made?

    Noooo. Don't listen to Tunney.

    Putting aside the general objection that no-one needs a power meter, I think a power meter is useful all year round. The sooner you get one, the sooner you can start learning how to use it.

    I spent most of last year playing around with data from my Powertap, but didn't start using it in earnest until I started a structured training plan in November.

    At that point I had six months of data accumulated, which I used to analyse all my ride data and get a better understanding of how effort is spent on different sorts of rides.

    It's all good.

    I agree with Lumen - I got mine just under 6 months ago and am only now starting to understand how to use it properly!

    thats just complicated, your saying its too late not that it wouldn't be useful to have a PM, just that the season will be over before you get to grips with it?

    surely thats nearly a good thing that he'll be on top of his game with it to get the most out of base training for next year?

    But its a huge distraction until you know what the numbers mean and it would distract from training and racing IMHO. It takes months and lots of reading and playing with software to get to grips with it properly I think.

    My my 2c.

    So on the topic of these things, is there really much of a difference between the powertap SL+ and Pro+?

    looking at getting some cosmic carbone SL's and a power tap

    getting the set -> 1720 (includes an SL+ hub and computer/accessories)

    Wheels 770 by themselves (special offer today on wiggle..)

    then it would be
    Pro+ Hub only 779 -> 1549
    SL+ Hub only 1056 -> 1826
    Either of these options would require getting the rear wheel re-built with the powertap hub, not too bothered about the computer since i've a 705..

    Thoughts?

    525 STG.

    @Nietzschean, there isn't much difference between the Elite and SL models other than weight. Bearings are a bit better in the SL and shop did tell me that I'd probably get 3-6 months out of the bearings in the Elite. Been 3 months now and they did point out that one is nearly gone.
    My SL is in the Cosmic Carbones. These are great wheels but you do feel the road through them.
