How do I register as Self Employed?

    Hi All,

    A company I worked for previously wants me to do some contact work for them for a period of time. They have advised my to register as self employed, get a company reg number and VAT number and then invoice them monthly for the work that I carry out.

    The trouble is I have absolutly no idea where to start at all. How do I register myself as self employed and how do I get a company reg number and VAT number?

    Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the quick reply. I found those forms this morning but wasn't sure if it was as easy as that :-) Thats great - so I don't need to go off and set up a sompany name or anything?
