    Hi Guys

    I have a question.

I am looking at a Car that is for sale at the moment in NI.
I know the guy that sold the Car (he is from the republic) he had the car VRT here and spent a fortune upgrading it. IE the car was legally VRT'd while it was owned by a resident of this country.

It was then sold to a Guy in NI who has subsequently put it up for sale again.

    My question is.
If I were to buy this car from the NI guy, would I have to pay VRT on the car a second time around?

    Cheers
    G.

Nope. Once is enough. You will get your original registration number back, AFAIK.

I think you get a form from tax office which you need to complete and then stamped by main dealer to verify chassis number etc and a solictor to prove identity/ownership.. you dont need to contact the vrt dept at all, all done thru shannon..

    possibly

there is an Evo 9GT for sale for €21,000 in NI.

If you wanted to bring one in you would have to add another €8500 on top of that.... to that end it is a Bargin!

When it was exported to and reregistered in northern Ireland, was there a rebate of VRT made?

It there was, then logic dictates that you would have to repay the VRT.

If it wasn't, then the taxes are already paid on the car so you can't be charged a second time.

We live in Ireland, logic dictates nothing here.
