    Hi all,

Myself and the girlfriend have decinded to go to south america on holidays around the middle to end of July for around two and a half weeks.

We were hoping to spend a relaxing few nights by a beach somewhere and then off travelling to see the sights.

We certainly want to get Argentina in and posibly a few tours from there.

Has anyone been on such a holiday? If so how much €'s do you think we will need to put aside? Looking to do it as cheap and cheersful as possible but not staying in hostels.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi John

I am a travel consultant working for an agency in cork
we have dedicated south america section. If you go onto our site http://www.travel247.ie and go to the south america section we have alot of tours here. Alternatively ring the number and ask for Moire, she is our south america specialist and she will help you with anything you need to know.
I was there for 4 months 2 years ago and it is amazing. If you are staying around Brazil and Argentina you must get to the following places, Ilha Grande - a tropical island 2.5 hours south of rio. Iguazu falls - a bit out of the way but if you are in that pat of the world you would be crazy not to go see it. and of course you have to see Buenos Aires and rio. I would happy to give you any tips on places to go. My name is Cathal. If you would like to talk about it give me a call at travel247 or send a message on boards. Im not so sure I would do a tour but since you have only a limited time it may be the best option.

    Hi John,

Couple of things for you to consider. If you're definitely looking for beaches then it has to be Brazil and then Ilha Grande would be a great idea. Beautiful and relaxing and you can get accomadation in poussada (sp?) for cheap. Kind of like a guest house with out the frills and they can be found right on the beach.

It is a lot to cover if you are also going to consider Rio, Iguazu and Buenos Aires. 2 and a half weeks is not long and none of these places are close to each other. Either you would need to fly to each one or take a crazy long bus journey. Rio is really worth seeing and obviously has beaches but you will probably find Brazil to be much more expensive than the rest of South America. Hotels will probably now cost more than they do here.

    Hope this helps.

Yes that is very true, they are not close together apart from Ilha Grande. It is about 2.5 hours south of rio with another 1 - 2 hours by boat. The reason I say go to iguazu falls is because it is such an incredible place that it would be a shame to miss it if you are down there. The bus journey ffrom rio to iguazu is not easy (25hours) but i think well worth it. You could also fly which may cost 1 - 200 euro. The bus time then from iguazu top buenos aires is 17 hours. Bare in mind the busses are quite good. pay a bit extra and you can have the full fold out seats which make it alot more bareable. You could fly into rio and home form buenos aires.

Any questions give me a shout. you would be doing very well to get that done in two and half weeks but it would be a great journey.
brazil is alot more expensive than argentina.
