Did anyone else catch this Documentary tonight? Really interesting, honest account of the band. Sad to think how depressed and lonely they all were when they were big but I know plenty of bands go through that. Great documentary though. And good to see they're all in a happy place now.

Absolutely fantastic.Highlight was Alex recording stings for a kids tv show "stop eating whales you c*nt".......comedy gold.

I forget how great Blur are so often but it's such fun being reminded.

I take it you have stayed up to enjoy the Glastonbury performance.

    Was a great watch alright.

Fascinating to see the inner workings of such a popular band and how it affects how we see things from this angle.

I did, didn't thank myself for that this morning though.

Yeah it was BBC2. I just came across it, I didn't know it was going to be on. You might be able to find it online or surely it'll be repeated on one of the BBC channels. I didn't see the beginning of it so I'll keep an eye out for it again and let you know if I find it.

I was never a huge Blur fan but the documentary made me really nostalgic for the 90s. Now I want a pair of adidas sambas!

Pretty excellent documentary alright. It was great but a little bit awkward when they told the truth about the other members, I guess they've been through so much at this stage that nothing said in public hasn't been said and resolved in private. Well made alright.

    It's out on DVD.

I quite enjoyed the film. Was never much of a Blur nut, but I do like them.

The documentary proved that Blur were and probably are a million times better than Oasis in terms of talent and quality of music. Excellent program all round and nice to see each of their little quirks up close. Another thing, it was also nice to see that you don't have to be a big cocky pr*ck to be the lead singer of a band!

The BBC have a BBC player service that lets you view programs from the past 7 days but they wouldn't let me watch it because its not available in Ireland, pack of *****.

Might have to bite the bullet and buy the dvd.

Didn't think this would be on DVD so quickly, didn't it just come out in January? Gotta check the shops..

I was never that into blur (was a metal kid so they were pussies as far as me with my all knowing teenage head was concerned, except for song 2 cuz dat woz mentol cuz it sez 'evy metal init, init)
But after watching this the other night I've had 'Tender' on repeat on my ipod. That Glasto gig must have been amazing for them as musicians as well as for anybody in the crowd.
It was interesting to hear Alburn's explanation of the Britpop notion evolving out a hatred of all that followed in the wake of Nirvana, wouldn't have thought he'd have cared

Alex James' autobiography "Bit of a Blur" is pretty fantastic, well worth a read if you're that way inclined.

i was too young to follow blur when they were big and i've just not gotten round to listening to much of their stuff but i still found this documentary to be rally interesting... i'll be looking them up when i get a chacne at all

I've been a big Blur fan since the early days (Leisure) and I thought it was a good documentary but didn't really show anything I didn't know about already.

Damon came off as a bit of a gowl but Graham, Alex and Dave came off well.

Damon seems to me to have become more aggressive on stage though sometimes he does pull it back and look like how he did when he was younger.

The clip of him crying at Glasto was particularly nice to see.

The Film was great , its not often you get to watch a bands career from the start to finish , it was so interesting to see how they evolved over the years , would love to see more film's like that.

I watched it tonight. I loved the way it was shot and it was really nice to see the lads talking so frankly about everything. The image of Damon in tears was pretty powerful.

really interesting and enjoyable docu, caught it in the cinema in january. got more into blur in the naughties than the nineties, great band with some corking tunes ... caught them at glasto last year and it was a f*cking marvellous gig, damon crying was a moment I wont forget in a hurry and the crowd singing back tender long after the song had finished was amazing .... the only thing to top it all weekend was Neil Young :D

saw em in 99 in italy, top gig...though i think "think tank" is one of their better albums...
didnt get damons criticism of the grunge bands, seeing as a lot of their later stuff sounded very american...

Dang, meant to watch it but forgot. Hope it's repeated soon.

epic documentary, so good i watched it twice in 2 days. Great account of blur's career. After wactching it, it reminds you of how great blur were. I saw them at Oxegen 09, seeing them live and watching the documentary, i now long for a full on blur reunion and new blur album

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,000 ✭✭✭wonderboysam

Great program, it was good to finally hear the reason behind grahams departure, I had thought that he simply hated the pop industry and the music they were producing

I'd also recommend alexs book 'A bit of a blur' its very easy to read and gives a great insight into fame

Anyone know if this is repeated or online anywhere?

Did ye see the program where alex james conducts an orchestra ?

Ha so funny when he bangs his head to the classical music :)

    I hope it's rerun

It was so annoying that their only Irish show was Oxegen, typical of the promoter. Heard a lot of the younger crowd weren't really interested bar a couple of songs, why couldn't it have been Marley Park or the RDS? The rage, the rage...

Looking forward to seeing this when it's repeated. What an incredible band (and the new Gorrilaz stuff shows yet again how far ahead of his peers Albarn is). Doubt we'll see a new album from them though, the reunion last year seemed to be more about finishing on a high and tying up loose ends rather than a proper reunion. Still they did it with a lot of class, as with everything else they ever did (nobody mention Country House now...). Here's hoping the do something in the future, or at least a new Good, Bad & the Queen album, the first one was pretty special. Damon mentioned how he had an album of love songs written that he planned to release as a solo album and was incredibly proud of. Guess it got sidetracked with Plastic Beach. Love to see that come out.

Very good documentary alright. Oasis kind of took over from them after Country house got to number one. 'Best Days' Is an amazing song

great documentary - bought it on DVD with the live gig as a second DVD, well worth investing in.

'Best Days' is one of those forgotten gems on that album - 'He Thought Of Cars' is also my favourite off that album.

Albarn confirmed in NME that Blur would be recording new songs and pprobably be releasing an LP at some stage.
