Boards hairdressers reviews! An Idea

    Ok i had an idea

We ALL find it hard to find a good hairdresser. I had this idea because i read a blog by a girl who had a hair disaster somewhere and BLOGGED it ..being unhappy with the response from her hairdressor ...she did what is the most powerful thing you can ..SHE WENT SOMEWHERE ELSE  and she went to FUSIONS who corrected her hair colour form what was really unbelievably bad ( it was a horror pic) and she gave them a great review and showed after pics of what was lovely hair...and her blog got massive response..from people enthused about it

Women (ok and guys you too!) are always going about this hairdressor did this ...or this one is good ...lets use that power to reward the good with our business ! :-) And avoid the disasters ..

There is the good salon guide etc.

But i also like to hear REAL people's experience.

    How you rate your hairdresser

On some of the following and what you get done

    Qualifications
Do they hold any advanced qualifications for colouring for example?

And what do these mean? What is the REAL difference between a stylist and MASTER COLOURIST?

From a real person point of view?

Professionalism....do they walk away from what they are doing to answer the phone for a personal call? Do they listen to you ? Etc ?

Do they make you feel COMFORTABLE or UNCOMFORTABLE

There is a weird snideness in some salons ...either your not cool enough or something.

Value for money....this is always subjective...for me its worth it to be happy...but i used to work in a hairdressor and to be honest some of the treatments are just conditioner ...to pay an extra ten to fifteen euro ..when all they do is spray something from a bottle and leave it for five mins ...when perhaps the bottle itself cost then fifteen euro from a hairdresser supply store is dishonest and THEY ALL do it trust me ...

Another thing..when i worked in a hairdresser ..your blowdry WAS ALWAYS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE OF YOUR QUOTE ...AND IT ALWAYS SHOULD BE!

The next time i am given a quote without a blow dry i am tempted to say i will blow dry it myself pass me the brush...and quite honestly i will do a better job!

    Skill.....
Do they know what they are doing or not ? How often have YOU felt they have done a bad job.

How does the cut last? The colour? Do they understand pigments and cutting techniques?

Does you darker colour 'lift' after a few days because they did not use a filler to fix it?

Does you blonde end up with a green tinge even in the salon?

Are you always happy with your colour ..can they get the cut or colour you want?

Have you ever ended up like you were attacked by shears?

This happened once in peter marks to me!

    Have you had any disasters?

If so how were they handled? Did they give a refund.
    Were they apologetic.

So i had the idea to start a thread FOR EVERYONE

    Review your experiences
    With stars:-)

    *
    **
    ***
    ****
    OR THE BOARDS ULTIMATE
    *****

Its open to guys and girls..

Too often the guys are left wondering where to go!

So give your review based on their skill ...qualifications ...did they explain things
    AND MOST IMPORTANTLY
Did you get what you wanted ?

    And price.

    Were you happy or unhappy?

How did they treat your hair ..and how does it last?

Or was it a total disaster.

Hairdressing is not an easy business to be in ....so lets reward the good ones and avoid the bad

    good salon guide etc

There is such a book - I think it can be found online

What is the REAL difference between a stylist and MASTER COLOURIST?

A stylist has qualified in everything, normally a colourist will qualify to cut too but go on to do their colour degree - not every salon does this!

Professionalism....do they walk away from what they are doing to answer the phone for a personal call? Do they listen to you ? Etc ?

I have no choice but to walk away from clients because I work for myself and on my own but I NEVER take personal calls while I have anyone in the salon.

Value for money...this is always subjective...for me its worth it to be happy...but i used to work in a hairdressor and to be honest some of the treatments are just conditioner ...to pay an extra ten to fifteen euro ..when all they do is spray something from a bottle and leave it for five mins ...when perhaps the bottle itself cost then fifteen euro from a hairdresser supply store is dishonest and THEY ALL do it trust me ...

    I DONT DO THAT!!!

Another thing..when i worked in a hairdresser ..your blowdry WAS ALWAYS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE OF YOUR QUOTE ...AND IT ALWAYS SHOULD BE!

Alot of bigger and more well known salons dont include cuts or blowdrys in the price!

How does the cut last? The colour? Do they understand pigments and cutting techniques?

    Everybodys hair grows differently!

Does you darker colour 'lift' after a few days because they did not use a filler to fix it?

11 years hairdressing and I have never heard of a filler!

Does you blonde end up with a green tinge even in the salon?

This is the water in the area your living!

    Did they give a refund.

No hairdressers should ever give a refund they will always offer to fix it though!

No i dont want people to name and shame

You can just rate the good ones

    Princess lala ..

I respect your right to earn a living and i am sure you are good at your job

Filler ...or sometimes pre-colour ...the pigment you add

For instance if a bleached blonde wants to go back to natural

The red pigments must be put back ..or the darker bluer hues will fade or worse ...once the darker colour is put over a blonde it may have a green hue or grey

Or it will lift after a few days or weeks as the darker pigment has nothing to cling to and the blonde will start to show through

I have heard it called pre colour also....but where i worked we called it a pigment filler.

I disagree ....it is a service like any other ..
IF A JOB IS BADLY DONE YOU SHOULD GET A REFUND

Why on earth would i let anything who got it wrong in the first place do it again?

    And why should i?

Also the green tinge thing ...actually no it is not always the water....often it is the colourist does not understand the bases they are working with ...someone who has natural cooler tones in their hair has more of a chance of going green then someone with more red tones..

Or the the constant bleaching has removed all the red hue too much and in trying to put low lights to correct it .the colourist has not understood that they are now working form a YELLOW base.....and this will give greenish hue

Also some products in the salon i worked in ( one brand in particular) just tended to go green..so we stopped using it..

Also RED fades more than any other colour ...AND ALL hair colour has some degree of red ....so if you put in a gold ...on bleach blonde ..the red fades faster leaving the yellow tones and some darker cooler hues ..with give a green hue

It is about balancing pigments..and a lot of the time hairdressers dont take a lot of this into account

I am not trying to denigrate the profession..there are some great ones out there ...but not all are.

I think to be honest if i was not happy and i felt i was in the right ...and my money was not refunded i would take that person to the small claims court

I know that hairdressing is a very hard industry ..and not easy ...

And when i am happy BELIEVE me i make it worth your while ..i am always bringing in business ...in fact when i was happy with a hairdresser in the past ..i gave her a lot of business ...she must have gained over twenty extra regular clients ....

    And i always tip well...

But if i genuinely think it is a bad job ...well i think i am entitled to my money back.....

"Filler" = Pre-pigementating (putting the pigment back into the colour that the bleach has taken out) or pre-colouring!

Im in the industry 11 years and have a masters in colour in four different colour companies! Im as high up with the colour as I can possibly go! And I will be the first to stand up and say yes Im good at my job - but its not a job to me its my passion!!

I have my own salon and at 23 opening it people thought I was too young but no! Ive never had a single complaint about either cutting nor colouring! If I did I still wouldnt be giving refunds! - Accidents can very easily happen - anywhere in life!

When going from light to dark - you pre-colour the hair so theres something for the darker colour to grab onto ~ when mixing your pre-colour you always put red into it!!

The salons your going to obviously dont know what they are doing! If they can do this much damage to someones hair! - If you go back to complain you should never get the same stylist unless you specifically ask for him/her!!

I don't think it's fair to say that a refund should never be given ... hairdressers make mistakes like everybody else, some of these would certainly warrent a refund as a "fix" is not always acceptable!

I think everyone is different but after a few major and minor disasters in various locations I've settled on the hairdresser in my gym. It's only herself and a girl who washes hair etc - She's half the price of most places, the cut is always lovelyt and it makes me feel good to support a small business too :)

I was always taught never to give refunds but talking to my sis in law who is also a hairdresser she is now saying of a few local places that do give refunds!

Ive never had anyone complain let alone ask for a refund but I do know not many if any places will give a refund!
