Shopping for a washing machine...

I'm looking to replace my washing machine.
Can anyone recommend brands? (BTW Miele is way outside my budget!) Or outlets where I can get a good deal?
My only requirements are front-loading, to take a 6-7kg load, variable spin and half load options.

    Thank you

After all the research ended up going for a Whirlpool... same as the mother has.
Cheaper than Zanussi or Bosch, gives more choice with the variable spin, more cooler temp washes and not too bad on the water consumption either.

It just goes to show... mammy always knows best!

I have done a good deal of research lately on kitchen Appliances as I'm building a new house and need to buy the lot. One thing I have learned, unfortunately for the poster above, is to stay away from Whirlpool!
Was told you cannot go wrong with either Bosch or AEG Electrolux. You will pay a little bit more but there is a reason for this! They should last you a lifetime!

Powercity is good. All major brands. Personally i would go for the cheapest. At the end of the day they all have roughly the same life span

    Lads cheapest is actually best.
    Beko beko beko.
Can't reccommend them enough. I work in an electrical shop,we really rarely have any problems with beko washing machines.

Front load is the only way to go. We love our Kenmore front load washer and dryer.

I also work in an electrical retailer, and would not consider Beko washer to be that reliable. Specifically, the base 1000rpm model, not sure about the higher spec models. Similarly, wouldn't be a big fan of Whirlpool either, based on the young machines we have to scrap (WEEE).

That said, I've had a Beko dishwasher in the past for a few years, worked fine.

AMS2010, it's probably too late for advice but here it goes

Check out what brands are serviced in your area and what's the call out charge.

    Excellent : Miele
Good : Bosch/Siemens, Electrolux (AEG, Zanussi)
OK: Beko, High end hotpoint, LG, Samsung, High End Whirlpool
Not great : Hoover/Candy, Low End Hotpoint, Low end Whirlpool
Don't even think about it : Haier and any brands you've never heard of, they're usually cheap re-badges and may prove very difficult to service.

With hotpoint and whirlpool the quality varies enormously depending on the price. Low end = don't expect much. High end can be quite OK or even good. Overall though, can be a bit pot-luck.

Bosch and Siemens are separate companies, but they have a joint-venture appliance company called BSH which manufactures appliances for both of them. Their appliances are usually identical, but the Siemens ones are sometimes a bit higher spec and more expensive.

Electrolux owns : AEG, Zanussi, Tricity-Bendix and possibly some others too...
