I had so much work to get done at home - so it was off out to the fields for a couple of hours.
This is my first outing since the end of the stalking season and took the 22lr out and dusted it off.

First up was this rabbit , I took standing @35m.
    firstrabitoftheyear14-03-10.jpg

Then on the way back to the car i got this crow @45m off a gate.

Tis good to be out on this fine day :D

And here's my lads taking a rest.
Sako 75 308, CZ Style 22lr, and CZ varmint 223.

    Yes you are going mad.

And yes I did changes the stock on my Sako 75. The rifle is the 75 Varmint with fluted barrel that should have come with the laminated stock.
When I bought the rifle it came with the synthetic stock and bought a 75 III action Laminated stock from E-bay for it.
So for now it is in the summer stock and will remain so until the stalking starts again in September.

It's only a shaped piece of wood.

It was a private sale off E-bay, got for £104 + post. I have seen another one for sale since.

Why would you shoot an ordinary crow? I think they are quite a likeable bird... grey crow I can understand.

Because they are vermin and maim sheep and lambs, destroy crops, and because I don't like them as much as you do.

Grey crows maim sick sheep and weak lambs. Rooks or ordinary crows generally just pick leatherjackets and insects. They do very little crop damage. i don't think you could class them as vermin. I'm not against shooting vermin.

You need a few more shooters to fill that rack mate

I reckon Clive needs a light little .300 win mag carbine. 20" lightweight barrel, short stock, all up weight about seven pounds. That'd keep him on his toes nicely. ;)

Ah, overpriced and non-original! Still be great fun though. What you need is a build like dwighet's 7mm-08, but in .300 win mag. Keep your shoulder nice and sore anyway!

That's correct, no problem with shooting rabbits, foxes, grey crows, deer, mink, rats. Just think black crows are generally harmless. Just an opinion. Hardly an 'anti' position. ;)

Well I saw a picture in the shooting times awhile back of a harmless black crow & a pheasant chick in his beak...

Wouldn't be as bad as the greys but I'm sure as a corvid they do their bit of damage. Prob more to crops etc than anything...

They get listed on the Ministers Derrogation list every year, so it is reasonable to shoot them.

Probably a carrion crow which is rare here. They are just a colour variation of the grey crow. There is overlap of forms in Britain where they interbreed. You are more likely to see a carrion crow in England and grey crow in Scotland.

I'd be surpised to see a rook feeding on dead animals or birds. Didn't know they are now on the derogation but you learn something new everyday. As for damage I've seen rooks almost destroy a planting of wild bird habitat comprising an oat and flax mix.
