Toyota Yaris - Built in Radio

    Hi Folks,

Can anyone with abit of knowledge of Toyoto's advise me on this one. The Yaris and most Toyota car's come with an in-built radio. The Yaris I have at the minute has the basic one with a CD Player (Very posh :pac: ) However, below the CD unit there could be space for a newer radio.

I'd like to fit a new radio if possible as the included one isn't great. Might do some work with the speakers while I'm at it.

However the main question is, can you do it? Or is it a big job? I presume it doesn't have the usual block connector at the back so in terms of intergration, how would it be done?

    Yaris (Not mine, stock photo):

    CD Set Up (Stock Photo):

You can see below the CD slot a smaller space again, new radio location?

    Thanks,

    ironclaw

yeah its easy enough, have done a few where its cheaper to say fit a sony stereo where the pocket is instead of repairing the toyota unit (fm reciever problems)only bad side is the top display radio congtrols become useless

As Padraic says, it's easy enough.

Thank you for the replies folks. I'll have a look.

The only problem I've found is many tutorials deal with a tape deck or no deck at all. Mine has a CD deck so I don't know if that add's complications.

Does the clock/trip computer stop working in the top display if you install a different stereo?

    They will still work.

the stock radio is decent enough, I'd be inclined to upgrade the speakers instead.
The slot under the CD is usually for fitting a 6 disc in-dash changer but a DIN sized radio can also be fitted.

If you can find a scrapped Toyota Vitz (Japanese model Yaris) they have the necessary trim pieces to replace the top unit and the old CD panel. this one has an inbuilt stereo but some have a standard DIN sized opening. If yours is the pre-2003 type Yaris with the grey dash (not the facelift model with ABS and black interior) the colours will match, if not then the colour will be wrong.

looking to fit a standard radio cd into a Toyota vitz with a setup similar to the picture above....Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to locate a facia blank to cover the space leftover?

Also considering its a Japanese import...can anyone fit it or would expertise be required???

My car has an original one of them and is Toyota OEM. I knew it played CD's but I never knew it was a multichanger as well?

hmmm yes its close but what is the circular hole for in the middle?

Would it be difficult to fit i wonder....would Halfords have something similar or are they a complete rip off for fitting???

    hi again,

Went to Halfords to try and get it all sorted with a new stereo for Toyota Vitz. They dont seem to have any facia adaptor for my car as my facia is grey....was hoping to get a double din to single din adaptor to fit in the gap!!!
    All suggestions greatly appreciated!!!

Did you have any joy with the stereo? My girlfriend bought a Jap import Vitz with the same size in built stereo and looking to do the same thing to receive Irish bandwidth. Couldn't find anything similar in scrap yards.

To be honest I gave up on it. You best bet is to do a straight swap. They come up on eBay from time to time.

You could just get a band expander.
