I just got a new laptop with windows 7 as the OS.

I was wondering if anybody out there knows a good codec package compatible with it?

I used to use K-Lite but it is not compatible.
    Thanks

    I Use Win7codecs by Shark007.

Alternative is the well known free K-lite codec packages.

Biggins as far as i know K-Lite is incompatible with Windows 7. I used to use it on my old XP machine.

Strange, worked for me. I always use it on every operating system.
Its one of the very first additional apps I stick on a system when I get a new one.
They even provide a 64 bit version: http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

Also on top of it working with Win 7 already:
    Win7DSFilterTweaker 2.8

We have developed a little tool that allows you to configure your preferred DirectShow filters for decoding H.264, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and VC-1 video in Windows 7. This makes it possible to use third party decoders instead of the native decoders that come with Windows 7.

    ffdshow:

    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/ffdshow.cfm

It's updated frequently, don't worry about it being in beta, it's been in beta for the last 4 years. :pac:

I use it with MPC on my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate PC and I don't need any other codecs.

I normally just go with K-lite and the bundled MPC-HC. Works fine on Win7 64-bit.

I keep VLC as a backup (plays most things and doesnt need external codecs) but rarely use it, or need to.
