    Hi there

Has anyone any idea why the cost of flights to LHR from all Irish airports are so high this weekend? I've just got the shock of my life - between 150 and 220 to fly SNN-LHR tomorrow or Monday

Surely there aren't Welsh fans flying SNN-LHR...?

It's because you're travelling at short notice, standard practice for most airlines.

It has nothing to do with this particular weekend. You are trying to book a flight one or two days in advance. That will always be very dear. Book a few months in advance and you will get a good deal.

I am well aware prices can go up close to departure, what I was remarking on was that the increase was more than usual (than last weekend, when I booked at similar notice, for example) so flights must be busier than usual. I guess it's just the combination of Paddy's weekend and the rugby.

I've had to suck it up anyway. Unfortunately circumstances don't always allow one to book months in advance.

And with that, you have given the exact reason for why tickets are so dear when you buy them a couple of days in advance: Airlines know very well that some people have no choice. They will pay the fare, no matter how high. Market forces at work...

Ryanair will get you to Stansted for €82 early tomorrow morning.

Thanks, but need to get another flight from LHR so need to go directly there. Have booked now anyway, I was just curious as to why the flight was so busy.
