I need an esp sensor for my 05 golf gti. Does anyone know where I might get a second hand one? I was thinking a scrap yard but I dont really know any big ones.

I did the Homer Simpson half a%$£ed approach second hand part thing and ended up throwing that used one out as well. I got a new one on ebay for a fraction of a price of secondhand one and it was delivered to my door. Perfect!!
I had tried to buy one from the local opel garage (my car is an Opel) and not only was the part over a hundred euro dearer they wanted 21% vat on top of that as well.
What I learned for this is when you do it right you only have to do it once.
    Regards.
    Tom.

Could try this place - if he does not have it then he can get it:

How much was the dealer charging?

It was the air idle valve I needed and the dealer wanted 137 euro for the part and 21% vat on top of that. I bought a second hand one from a breakers yard in Wexford and after I put it in I found that that one was kncakered as well. So on to Ebay goes I and bought a new one for 37 euro and that included postage from England. This was not a spurious part and he had lots of them and other new replacement parts.
    Regards.;

Do you mean the wheel sensor? If so, i'd get a new one - they're a bit fragile anyway and their location means that they have a hard life. As enfield said, eBay would be my first port of call.

Its the little sensor box that goes under the passenger seat. I only want it so i can pass the nct. Dealer wants €650 for a new one.

You'll need the part number, which will be on your old one. I just put 'golf esp sensor' into ebay, got three results, two for £65ish and one for £35.

I think this may be the one you want - says it was on a Golf GTI. I'd still check the part number, though.

I already sent that guy a mail this morning. It looks like the part alright. Im just wondering if ill need to clear the fault on the computer after i fit the part. My gut feeling is that the part itself isnt faulty and that its the connection. Ive noticed that if someine big sits in the passenger seat or i inflate the tyres the fault sometimes goes.

I'm guessing that if the fault sometimes clears itself then the code won't need to be cleared. I had a problem with the wheel sensor on an Audi A8 a while back, where the dash lit up every time I locked hard right. It disappeared whenever I restarted the car, though. I replaced the sensor and all was well again. Re whether it's the connection, though, i've no idea. Have you taken the unit/seat out and had a good look?

Someone with a VAG-COM cable will be able to clear the fault; usually plenty of "decent" guys about that will meet you and connect up to clear it.

    Best of luck...

FWIW I had that idle valve go on my GTI too - Thankfully I had bought an extended 5 year warranty so it was covered; seems a bit of an issue on the Golf's as I have come across a lot of them failing.

Left it in for a diagnostic in the VW garage. They say its a faulty sensor and want €750 to replace it. I'll be hitting the scrap yards so. only problem is I've been told that the part has to be registered with my car or something and only VW garage can do that. On the brighter side I think it will pass the NCT if I get it in before the new changes on April 1st.

Just a little update. Despite what VW told me it appears to be a lose connection. The part is located underneath the passenger seat and when someone heavy sits in it the fault disappears. Glad I didn't rely on their "expert advice". Hopefully it can be repaired with some gaffer tape and some fiddling around.
