04, 1.9 VW Transporter, rad cooling fan sometimes operates when the veh is parked, at night etc. Totally intermittent, may not happen for weeks, no apparent cause etc. Net result is a flat battery. Customer reports that turning the ign on results in the fan turning off.

    Known issue?

Could be any number of sensors or wiring fault causing an intermittent voltage from the ecu. Did you do a diagnostic check? Any faults show up? Untill its fixed just pull out the fan fuse at night.

Its been through a main dealer, no faults apparent. Am inclined to suspect a bad earth somewhere TBH.
