Personally I think that you would be opening yourself up to a whole world of pain.
Would you really know what to say to a person who is waiting to be killed?

Yeah I would. I did in fact. Never got around to sending it though. I had my dude all picked out and all. He's probably long gone by now. He seemed like the nicest out of the lot and wasn't going on about being wronged. RIP dude.

Bull**** comment, do it for ****s and giggles.

In reality, it would probably really upset you.

i actually have a pretty sick sense of humour, so i could think of plenty of things to write to a person on death row

however if you are a more sensitive soul, i wouldnt, sure why try make a connection with someone who is gonna be put to sleep like a sick puppy?

I agree with Hank, it could be painful when the execution comes

But at the same time it is very compassionate, and whether or not they "deserve" to be executed for their crime, its something I would appreciate in that situation.

Go for it OP, just try not to get emotionally involved

I am going to start writing to inmates on Death Row to wish them 'the best of luck on your upcoming trip'.

well im a pretty disconnected person so i wasn't planning on starting a pen pal/relationship more just tell him about my life and whats going on at the moment in my life and what not,im sure he/she wouldn't really want to hear it but im sure they would be happy someone made so effort to contact them before they died.

Does Amnesty run a similar programme for writing to lend support to the families of their victims?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,061 ✭✭✭damagegt

It would be a noble thing to do, especially for anyone who disagrees with the death penalty.
Dont they spend 23 hours a day inside their cells? And have a longer life expectancy if they are black?
A lot of people are put in there when they are kids, if you are up for making their time more pleasant, best wishes

    My thoughts would be

Do me a favour and save taxpayer's money: die quickly.

This is a link regarding Stanley 'Tookie' Williams, the founder of the crips gang who was excecuted in 2005.
Read up and I think it is without doubt that he was a product of enviroment that found redemption and did a lot of good for society from death row.

But it still seems to be 'an eye for an eye' in Christian USA. Ironically...

You could always send them a nice economical & healthy low-carb recipe option for their last meal I guess

dont the families of the people they killed have a broken heart for 24 hours every day
better there than, causing grief to innocent families,

Not excusing what they did, but if we like to think of ourselves as better more compassionate people then maybe we can act like it.

And if you want to think of schadenfeude maybe it would make them more miserable to know what they are missing out on

true true.i think the only way i would be able to do it is try not think of any of that and try think that im just writing to any joe soap. if i started thinking like that id probably start asking them what their on death row for and i think id prefer not to know so i wouldn't judge them for it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,018 ✭✭✭Mike 1972

I wouldnt for the simple reason that I wouldnt have a clue what to write.

By that logic why make a connection with anyone when theyre bound to doe sooner or later ?

It would be nice to inject some humour into their lives, to get them used to injections.

I agree with the death penalty, so my letter will be short and sweet: Bye!

I'd ask him to tell Cory Haim when he meets him, that he's death didn't make the papers.

Then again the number of people on death row who have married pen pals is a bit freaky.

I remember reading some guy's blog where he was pretending to be a young boy and sending letters to people on death row asking for adivce in life. They all seemed nice enough but I can't find it now.
