As long as you still satisfy the conditions for receipt of the payment, i.e. fit and available for work, looking for work, etc. You could technically be in receipt of the payment until the age of 66 if you were unable to find another job.

Its important you keep on top of the time your JSB running out as you have to apply for JSA and i believe there are vary time delays in JSA applications being processed. I too am in a similar situation (albeit not children) and can't afford to get caught with no payments during the application process.

There is some confusion about this waiting period, how you receive continuing payment etc, the general opinion is you will need to see your CWO for payment during the application process but you should check this out, there are some horror stories those on JSB getting little or no notice of JSB running out and then being left with no payments (Not a good thing for your situation with children to worry about)

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

As Dempo1 says, check remaining time for JSB. I knew my benefit would end early March so I submitted a JSA application to my local social welfare office at the beginning of January - I only received the official letter that my JSB was due to end two weeks ago when I signed on (letter was dated February 8th and was waiting for me with signing-on card!): even though I'd had my JSA interview the previous week!!

Timing does seem to be an issue. Even after all the above, my JSA is still 'in process'. Industrial action is impacting on progress. I suggest you phone your local office and get them to issue you a letter stating when your JSB ends - you'll need this if you're applying for a supplementary payment from your Community Welfare Officer (ie for period while your JSA is being processed....when you're in limbo financially speaking!).

Hope this helps & good luck.
