    Hi guys

Im sure the answer to this is somewhere here but i had a quick look and couldn't find it, also haven't got much time.

I'm supposed to be flying to birmingham in a few hours. Can't find my passport anywhere. I haven't flown in a while but going to uk i didnt think passport was essential so i didn't bother trying to find it until the guy who booked the flights asked me for my passport details to check in online.

So i go online i find that:

I can't check in at dublin airport for Ryanair. Is this true?
I need my passport to fly to england with ryanair. Is this true?

Girlfriend just told me that one friend told her a driving licence would be ok ti fly to england but might be a problem flying back???

Another said theres no way to fly ryanair without passport?

Can anyone clean this issue up for me please?

    Thanks you

Ryanair's policy is that a passport is required, even for the UK. They don't make exceptions, unless you're in the military.

You can check in at the airport, or at least you could until very recently but you have to pay. I believe its €/£20, whichever currency you prefer.

    Sorry OP

    Bad news I'm afraid...

You need a passport (only, no other doc accepted). http://www.ryanair.com/ie/questions/what-travel-documentation-do-i-need-to-travel-on-ryanair-flights

You must check in on-line up to 4 hours before the scheduled flight time.

You clearly didn't read the terms that you agreed to when booking......

Ryanair is online check-in only and has been for nearly a year now. A passport is required for all Ryanair flights, including domestic.

    Thanks for reply

Actually i said in my initial opening post that a friend booked the tickets, and only mentioned a few hours ago that he needed my passport details.

Choosing to fly with Aer Lingus? Yes, that'd be what's wrong there. But for the serious answer - It's virtually impossible to get a flight under a couple of hundred euro at such short notice.

Ha thanks neil...i'm obviously out of touch with flying as you can clearly tell.

Right, well, it's time to search for other options...

It's cool. No need to worry. Ferry crossings maybe? AFAIK €60 will get you a return ticket to Holyhead..... but that doesn't include train/other transport once you get to Wales.

Of course! How could I forget? I used that once. Couldn't believe it was only £29 to get numerous trains from London all the way to Holyhead and including the boat home. ;)

I'd go for the combi ticket that TJJP linked above. It's your choice though. I'm sure you can book the combi at the port?? But I wouldn't be too sure - air is my preferred mode of transport :pac:

The others are right. Ryanair will not let you on without a passport. Something similar happened to me about 11 years ago. I was going to England (Manchester as it happens) for a funeral. I was told that i wouldnt need a passport to fly but i rang Ryanair before just to check. The woman on the phone lied to me telling me that i would be ok with a driving license and Garda I.D. So i got to Dublin airport after travelling up from Limerick and there was no way they would let me on without a passport.
Ended up paying an obscene amount of money to aer lingus for a flight the next day.
I will never ever fly Ryanair again because of that stupid b!tch on the phone:mad:

Good luck...Instead of the train you could also get a coach direct to Manchester. I've done it many times in the past...

Eurolines run buses from anywhere in Ireland to the u.k, check their website..

thanks for suggestions guys. Some arn't panning out time wise but ferry looking the best bet right now.

Eurolines great idea but not leaving until 8pm tonight and get there and 5.35am. I'd put up with the length of journey but i'm missing most of weekend that way.
