Air tightness - is Plastic ok?

    Hi All,

I am starting finish the ceilings in my timberframe self-build. The frame itself came with the airtight membrane pre-fitted (and pre-insualted/slabbed). All I have to do is close in the cielings.

I have heard that there are various products from SIGA and Moy that are breathable, etc - but is this really necessary? I have loads of the same Plastic (heavy duty stuff) that was used in the wall by the timber frame manufacturer, and intended on using that.

I do have MHRV installed, so condensation/moisture buildup should not be an issue.
I contacted the TF manufacturer about the difference between plastic and these special membranes and they said there was no need for it to be breathable.

Also, does anyone know of a person/company who fits the membrane in the munster area - please PM me.
I had considered doing it myself, but I guess it's best to get it done professionally - even though most rooms are straight forward, my guess is I'll miss something an experienced installer would not. I'd like to get down to 2 air changes / hour.

Thanks in advance for any and all tips/advice!
