Root Canal recommended but no crown?

This is just one last thing I need advice on and then I will go away!

I have had my 1st root canal finished yesterday by an endodontist and the
tooth is saved and awaiting ap with regular dentist for crown. A temporary
crown is keeping things safe, the other tooth that was to be part of this
endo visit originally cannot be saved and will be extracted unfortunately.

while this was going on I got an unexpected pain in a bottom left tooth
out of the blue a couple of weeks ago ..reg dentist adviced me to ask the endo for their opinion.
they xrayed and said because of its crooked position in the gum it would
not be suitable for crowning. The other work continued successfully and yest at the end of the treatment it was suggested that as I had already
received a quote from them for 2 root canals I might consider having this
new problem tooth rc treated but not crowned, as the other tooth quoted for
had not been successful as originally hoped for (rc and crown not performed as root was too short and a lot of the tooth was gone)-
I was glad at the thought of saving this additional problem but have since read that without
a crown the tooth is prone to break after the RC treatment which will
make it brittle.....do I go ahead and pay 800e for RC and risk a break
sooner than I would like it?
I have spent so much money and am still spending I hope I make the
    right decision.
your kind comments would be greatly appreciated;)

    Front tooth or back tooth?

it would be hard to say without seeing you.

As a general rule if a tooth is badly decayed or broken down and has a root canal treatment then it will need a crown. Also many advise to put a crown on a back tooth after root canal treatment if it is involved in chewing, as it is now a little weaker and chewing can cause stress fractures and over time the tooth will break. Front teeth are ofetn crownded if discoloured after root canal treatment

Form your message it I think it is a back tooth but not too sure?? So it depends really on the amount of tooth left and how much it is involved in chewing and biting and

left side the second bigger teeth after the bottom front ones just at the
crack of your mouth not hugely visible

Its a fine big tooth not broken but has a filling and needs another .. its shape, as it leans over on the inside to the next tooth makes it too hard to crown

if the tooth is leaning over, then there's a few problems.

the first is that it may simply be just too awkward for the dentist to get proper access to prepare a crown properly
the second is that if the crown could be prepped and make the tooth more 'upright', then the direction of the forces would be all wrong for chewing, making it more likely to break off.

anyway, if it is leaning over, then it's not under the usual high forces on chewing, so it may be ok without a crown.

    Thank you

I see what you mean..just a bit nervous of paying out another
root canal fee that might end up a disaster, the endo receptionist
phoned me today by mistake (strange!) and I voiced my concerns
but I got no call back :( yet!

izzie this sound complex, either trust the specialist and your dentist (on whose prescription the endodontist is working) or seek a second opinion, I don't think anyone on hear can give you good advice without a clinical examination. Anything said is purely speculative.

    Thanks Fitzgeme

I will see if I get a call back about it..it does seem complex I just am getting
a bit terrified about money going down the drain!! The dentists are both friends.

The endodontist did not return my call last Friday about the strength
of the suggested root canalled tooth that was to be done without placing a crown afterwards,

I know a guarantee cannot be given but I just thought it might
be useful ti discuss the possibility of the tooth not lasting any decent period
and my options as of now.....no call makes me even more dubious about
attending the root canal AP in April.

    Second opinions are costly too:(
