Credit card query with China Airlines

    Hi,

Myself and a mate are travelling to Thailand (Dublin to Bangkock via Amsterdam) with China Airlines at the end of May.
I booked these tickets on my mothers credit card, and before I booked them a message came up:

YOU MUST TRAVEL WITH THE CREDIT CARD HOLDER WHO PURCHASED THE TICKET. PLEASE KINDLY PRESENT THE CREDIT CARD FOR VERIFICATION AT CHECK-IN COUNTER UPON DEPARTURE. FAILING TO PRESENT THE CREDIT CARD OR TRAVELING ALONE WITHOUT CARD HOLDER OR DISCREPANCY OF THE NAME AND CREDIT CARD NUMBER WITH THE TICKET, YOU WILL BE REQUESTED TO PURCHASE A FULL-FARE TICKET AT THE
    AIRPORT COUNTER FOR YOUR JOURNEY'

This message was also in the electronic tickets e-mail I recieved. What does this mean? Will we be allowed fly if the credit card holder is not going on the trip? Is it just a credit card fraud deterrent? Never do I see this with Ryanair..

    Thanks

Have had this issue in the past where I have not had the credit card on my person when checking in, never been denied tho even when it was stated that it was required. Just take a photocopy of the card with a letter signed by your mother confirming she authorised the payment. The fact that the surnames will match should be enough for them anyhow.

Should be fine, and 99/100 times it will be: but be aware that yes they can turn you away (and it has happened). This is one of he reasons the reading the terms and conditions before booking a ticket is always a good idea!

Many airlines insist on this. 99/100 times they don't actually check - but they can, if they were so inclined.

Just because Ryanair don't do it, it doesn't mean anything :)

Neither Aerlingus nor Ryanair have this requirement. There is nothing in their T&Cs nor their conditions of carriage that state the credit card used to book the flight must be present.

got stung by this coming home from ibiza through madrid with iberia airlines. its a requirement for some airlines to stop fraud. iberia wouldnt let me on the plane, they didnt care. nightmare it was. had to buy another flight for €220 with aerlingus.

they probably wont let you on the flight. i would ring them and find out rather than get a shock at the airport but be prepared to buy one as iberia were really strict about this.

I also had a big problem with Iberia - I was trying to use a 3V prepaid visa card, and nearly got stranded in Las Palmas , as the guy on the check-in wanted to see the actual credit card. Took ages to sort out, and nearly got left behind.
