Do I need new runners?

    Hey all,

Just looking for a bit of advice, as I think I may need a new pair of running shoes. I've been running regularly for the best part of a year now and all was going well up until a couple of weeks ago.

Basically my toes have started to go numb about 10-15mins into my runs. Seems to happen mostly in my right foot, but has happened in the left a couple of times as well.

I think this puts my stride all out of whack, which then results in me getting bad pains in my right shin and hip. Which has forced me to end my run prematurely a couple of times.

I'm using a pair of Asics Gel Kayano at the moment, their prob a bit over 6 months old now I'd say. I run about 5k 3-4 times a week. I'm only running for my own enjoyment/health.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

General guideline is that runners should be replaced every 500 miles or 6 months which ever comes first. This could be the problem alright my advice would be to get new pair and see does that make an improvemen. The only hurt that can come from it is to your wallet:p

Hmmm. They could be too small, but not if it's only a recent development. Has this been happening since you got the shoes? Have you recently started tying your shoelaces differently (too tight?) Have you changed your running style? Are you female and aged between 30 and 50? Wear a lot of high heels?

Damn.. Krusty_Clown has been 'outed'. ;)

Only started happening a couple of weeks ago, before that I was making great progress.

Their defo not too small, although thinking about it now, maybe they're a hair too big for me.

After it had happened a few times, I did try tying the laces in different ways ranging from very tight, to not that tight at all. I only saw a difference when they were very tight, which kinda delayed the numbness a bit, but ultimately my toes still got numb.

Oh, and I'm a 30 year old male, and have only been in high heels a couple of times ;)

*cough* me too. Only because I hear that they helped with backache. *cough*
Did you buy your current set of running shoes in a bona-fide running shop? Might be worth visiting one that does proper fitting/gait analysis, etc.

6 months to change trainers?, thats expensive! maybe thats why im getting weird pains in my right lower leg front muscle and top of right foot? Got mizuno wave riders back in July 09, so probably need to change them so. Might just get the same pair again if i need new trainers.. Though come next August i'll need to buy another pair again!!:D
