I've been looking to buy a new dvd recorder but I'm being told that a lot of manufactures have stopped making them. Anywhere in the Dublin/city centre region I should try?

I'd give Richer Sounds a shout, they have their own forum in Biz. I can recommend a Pioneer HDD one. Mine's excellent.

I've got the following Sony HDD recorder I'll be putting up for sale shortly:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-RDR-HXD870-Recorder-160GB-Freeview/dp/B000OQ7878

Not a scratch on it. Barely made use of it. No problems with it. let me know if you're interested and we can sort something out. I'm pretty sure you can upgrade the hard drive if needs be.

Why have they stopped making them? Just wondering as I've been thinking about buying one myself.

PS any advice about what to go for? It's just to record the odd TV programme.

Get some in Argos, Peats, DiD and power city. Very limited supply, about 3 dvd disc only and about 6/7 dvd hd recorders.

I imagine Sky+ and SkyHD have a lot to do with there demise. Who needs VCRS or DVDRS, when you have your own PVR.

Also the money seems to be on blu-ray recorders now. They are darn expensive though, I guess since it's such a new venture of sorts.

Regarding the OP, I got two Philips DVD recorders from powercity back in the day. Both went t*ts up within a year. Thankfully, that of course meant I could exchange them, since they were still under guarantee. I decided to go with an LG on the 3rd try and it's still going strong.

tallagh is right though, a lot of the big electrical retailers are tuning them out/have a limited range . They are still chancing there arm with prices, mind you. These days, I think you should pay a max of €120, for something like a 160 GB HDD DVDR.

Think they are a bit dearer than that, cheapest dvd hd about 210
