New Runners (not breaking in)

Hi guys, bought a pair of new nimbus about 4 weeks ago. Exact same size and model that I was using before. Made the rookie error of not breaking them in and went for a hard session on their first outing. Cue blister then verruca then liquid nitrogen treatment and 2 weeks of missed training . A self inflicted error I hope never to repeat!
Anyways I reverted to the old pair and have only worn new pair during short 5-6 mile recovery runs. Problem is is that I get really bad 'hot spots' from the new pair still even after 9-12 outings. I'm wondering if its a faulty pair of runners? Has anyone else here had this problem before where they just cannot break in a pair of runners in particular asics? Running Rotterdam 11th April and want to break these new runners in asap but they don't seem to be co-operating. thanks in advance

a verruca from a new pair of runners? AFAIK, verruca are caused by a virus?

I've never had to break in a pair of trainers (and I get through about a pair a month)

I was also thinking of posting about this! I've about 60 miles in my new Nimbus runners and they're still giving me problems (just in 1 spot - ball of my left foot). The last NImbus were great shoes and never gave me a problem but these don't seem to be improving...

Sorry HM should have been clearer - Blister burst then picked up verruca swimming two days later. Seemingly pools are a breeding ground for these. Verruca cleared up now but problem with new runners remains

Hi macinalli - ball of my left foot is where hot spot is most pronounced as well! Wonder is it a manufacturing fault? Would be interesting to hear if others out there have the same problem. Was averaging 70 miles per week in old pair and have over 700 miles in them now so really new to get the new pair sorted and retire the old pair.

I have been a dedicated Nimbus owner for the past 5 years. This version simply does not work for me. They narrowed the shoe significantly in mid section and also have a rougher inside lining. the result has been terrible blisters. the toe box is also uncomfortable. The one good thing about the shoe is more cushion, but that really does not matter when you are getting blisters. Why did they ruinsuch a great shoe?.

Seems a lot of former ascics nimbus users are either buying up all the nimbus 8's or trying other brands.
I use vomero 4s and I love em to bits, going to get me a few pairs soon, they are currently selling for 90 euros down from 130 in one of the sports shops in dundrum. I don't have any issues so they are a neutral cushing shoe and as such have the best cushioning I've ever experienced in a shoe.

They also come with a hole in the sole for the nike + transmitter. it's a great device and keeps me interested.

And no I don't work for nike!!!

Strange thing is that I have the exact same model that I had no issue with breaking in. Just wonder is there a defect in the pair I bought recently. With marathon only 4 weeks away I need to be happy with my shoe selection and I ain't. Don't really want to attempt a sub 3 in a pair of runners which at that stage will have over 1,000 miles in them. At the same time i am obviously not going to run in a pair that cause my feet to blister. Maybe I should look at a lighter pair. Anyone run a marathon in asics ds trainers? I have the sauncony fast twitch that I use for racing up to 10kms. They do feel a bit light to be running 26.2 miles in. Would the DS Trainers offer more support? Was also considering those nike lunar Racer. Too light again for a marathon? Thanks again :)

Did you ever change your runners 4 weeks away from marathon before?
i use new balance, and i changed same brand new pair, 4 weeks before DCM last year, i began getting sore feet aswel, and was worried about them, but now they are grand,
what i am trying to say is all the training you have done and are now at the peak of your milage might not be the best time to break in footware.

I did the DCM '09 in DS Trainers with no problems. I have lighter shoes (see recent shoe thread) that I love, but if I had to restrict my range of shoes to 1, the DS Trainers would be the choice. I've never tried the Saucony so I can't offer any comparison there, but speaking as a mild pronator (right foot more obvious than left) I find there's plenty of support - I lace them up pretty tight. I'm 1.81m tall and weigh 67-68kg, so on the lighter side.

Hi Bart - no i hav'nt changed runners 4 weeks out from marathon before. Thought I was giving it plenty of time changing 6 weeks out but obviously not. Reassuring to hear you had same issue before DCM last year so i know know it's nothing too serious. If i'm freaking out now i can't imagine what i'll be like during the taper!

Cheers aero2k. Will look at picking up a pair of ds trainers this weekend and give them a spin next week. Will report back how I find them. I weigh in about the same as yourself so hoping they agree with my running style.
