EIDW Delivery: "What's the first waypoint in your FMC?"

Downloaded LiveAtc app for my iPhone the other day so have been listening to Dublin ATC when I'm in the area. This morning, I heard delivery asking a few aircraft what their first waypoint was before sending them to ground on 121.8. All of their answers were "Oscar Echo", which is the outer marker and first waypoint on most SIDs out of EIDW.

Any ideas why he'd ask this having just assigned them a SID?

I know that recently they used to ask them to confirm selected SID in FMC before going over to ground. Basically when they are abbreviated in the FMC they can be confused- PESI4M and PELI4M could easily be mismatched.

Apparently around November the air france 747 accidentally flew the LIFFY CAT A departure instead of the PESIT cat D departure....so this is partiially the reason

Presumably this is to see that they have actually selected the correct SID- i.ie a 737 has the LIFFY4A selected and not the LIFFY4B- first waypoint off 28 for all Cat C-D sids is OE, whereas for CAT A and B sids is a turn at 750 feet (to DUB on the LIFFY4B for eg.)

So just out of interest, what comes under CAT A, B, C & D?

Its based on vref/vat speeds.....and something like 1.3 times stall speed (something at the back of my mind tells me that

A – below 90 kts (small aircraft and turboprops- e.g small Cessna
    B – 91-120 kts (turboprops, smaller jets) e.g ATR
    C – 121-140 kts (bigger jets) 737 etc
    D – 141-165 kts (even bigger jets) B777 A380 etc
E – over 165 kts likes of Concorde or AN225
