Is 2 eggs a day bad??

    Hi,
trying to cut out the starchy carbs recently, and i find myself eating a lot of eggs as theyre so easy, taste great and i run out of ideas of what to make when im not allowing myself to eat bread (i used to eat a lot of sambos :D)

Is this bad? i know the general consensus used to be that you should limit the amount of eggs per week but i know recent research went against this. However, im worried that 2 per day might be a bit much?
I eat the whole egg, i never liked just using the egg whites cos it seems like such a waste to me.

the eggs in the shake is a waste of time on a number of levels.

    Do explain?

    Do explain?

It's a terribly inefficient way of getting your protein, the bioavailability of the protein in eggs is severely diminished when they're raw.

Also, even if he cooks them and puts them in the shake  it's overkill on the protein assuming there's ~ 30-40g in the shake already as the body won't be able to assimilate that amount.

hit the nail on the head there. if its calories the guy is after fair enough but 40g of protein is plenty for any one meal ...

carbs are also important for muscle building

Also eating 5 raw eggs a day will use up a lot of biotin (vitamin B7) which will create an eventual subclinical biotin deficiency.

When you say carbs, which ones are the best and most easily absorbed and healthiest?

I avoid grains (rice, breads grainsetc - replace with nuts) and I have removed milk (has totally removed my sinus problems). I'm finding no energy when exercising and I eat 4 boiled eggs a day and all the experts write about eating loads of grains for carbs when working out but veg and nuts dont give me any energy. I'm so used to the quick release carb energy from sugars which I am trying unsuccessfully to replace naturally.
I know veg is supposed to be a good slow release form of carbs but I eat a family pack of frozen veg(steamed) every day and I'm still hungry!:(

nuts are not really a replacement for carbs. 4 boiled eggs a day wont give you much energy either. my motto is everything in moderation (except vegetables!! - have lots of these) have porridge and sweet potato for carbs and see if you have more energy when exercising?

Try root veg and moderate amounts of fruit. I'm the same if I don't eat any root veg or porridge for a day and then go out for my pre-breakfast walk the next day I'm in bits, no stamina and really dizzy and light headed after half an hour must be something to do with depleted glycogen stores. I'm not sure what the total amount of carbs I eat is (I'd imagine it's pretty high) but I definately feel better getting my carbs from veg and beans than I did when I used more grains and fruits. Try and find a balance that you feel good at, don't go so low carb that you don't feel happy and energetic there's not much point in that!

Has anyone looked into the advantages of eating the eggs from hens fed high omega three diets? Is it worth the extra money?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,775 ✭✭✭EileenG

No, because they make them Omega 3 by feeding the hens flaxseeds, which do contain Omega 3, but not in a very bio-available form. You'd be better buying organic eggs and take a fish oil supplement yourself.

Temple Gardin told me to eat Omega 3 eggs as they are better than organic ones, I used to get free range organicg eggs €3 for 6 I now I buy Omega 3 eggs €1.49 for 6!!!!

    I am confused now though:confused:

It's not really about getting the omega 3 as it is about decreasing the relative amount of omega 6, which in turn allows the omega 3 in the egg to be more bio-available. I think it's definitely worth it if you can't get eggs from hens that you are sure aren't being fed grain as the majority of their diet.

who cares? the shake is delish and it obviously has enuff protein, great way to start the day

Can't the body only absorb a certain amount of protein from each meal, though? Wouldn't anything above that be a waste?
