After reading through a few of these threads, I'm becoming more and more worried about fruit!

Lately I've been trying to up my intake of fruit instead of snacking on crisps choc etc. I love mangos oranges apples grapes mmmm

But it seems like the sugar content is really high. Is it a bad idea to be eating lots of fruit? I eat about two or three peices a day

And if so, does anyone have any other things they eat to stop snacking on carbs? Something filling?

Two to three pieces is very good for you and is way better that eating crisps or a slice of bread as a snack.

Fruit is not bad for you, its certanly better than snacking on sweets. Fruit does contain sugar but its not the same as white cane sugar, keep eating your fruit, you need the fiber and vitamins it gives.

If you need to snack get some nuts (not salted peanuts) brazil nuts are great. Don't worry about fruit, just try and keep it before lunch when you can.

my aunt was saying to me the last day and she went to the dentist and that all the fruit she was eating was eating had damaged her teeth because of the high acid levels.

You can eat a lot of it in one go/brush your teeth after eating them and not all fruits are acidic.

See I think there's levels of healthy. For most except the most most healthy any fruit is going to be better than pretty much anything else that you eat, certainly all processed foods which comprise over 50% of most people's diet. If 90% of your diet is comprised of non-processed foods then you can start thinking of the convenience of eating 2 versus 5 pieces of fruit a day.

Sorry, just to clarify, I know veg is better than fruit but most people on "regular" diets don't eat much of that either!

If you're worried about the high carbs (though they're perfectly reasonable!) try switching to lower carb fruits, such as blackberries, cranberries, strawberries, melon etc. You can find a fairly long comparative list here.

    Interesting about the acid.

I asked my dentist about fruit - as I had a habit of grazing on grapes at work, and I was worried about the constant sugar level on my teeth.

He told me that fresh fruit has an enzyme that stops the sugar causing decay - so from the point of view of my teeth it was fine to graze.

However, he said that the enzyme was killed when fruit is dried, so grazing on sultanas for example would be terrible for them.
