"Support" AEGs

It recently occurred to me (while we were pinned down for several minutes by an opposition M60) that 'support gunner' might be a fun role after all. As a result of this revelation, I'm looking into getting either an M60 or preferably a SAW (since it's for a USMC loadout).

Just looking for advice on which manufacturers have the best offering at the moment. The CA SAW seems incredibly expensive compared to others and CA don't seem to have a great reputation. A&K SAW seems about the right price, but is it that much cheaper for a very bad reason? :/ I've seen STAR and G&P versions aswell, what are peoples experiences with these?

I'll want to get it from an Irish retailer for obvious reasons so it will have to be something that's readily available.

The A&K M249 is the only one worth thinking about. At €300 and maybe another €30-40 if it has massive airseal problems (there's a couple of threads here somewhere that talk about the A&K saw) it's way cheaper than anything else on the market and well worth the money. It's also a clone of the Classic Army one and comes with a box mag.

I was researching this topic recently, and found this review of the A&K SAW Para very helpful (figuring that the various models are the same apart from stock and outer barrel and whatever). The short version is that there are a few problems with it, but they're not hard to fix if you don't mind getting your hands dirty and maybe buying a couple of small parts, and those aside the quality is up there with the ones that cost triple the price. And that review tells you how to fix them.

I think you'd be wanting the MkII for a U.S. Marine loadout, but be aware that they're looking at phasing it out altogether and replacing it with something smaller, so eventually it'll be out of date.

Cheers guys, very helpful. That review is pretty much what I needed. Seems as though the few problems it has can be resolved easily enough.

I had read that the Marines will be replacing it eventually but I don't think there's a definite replacement yet? Or at least, not one that exists in airsoft form. Besides, 'vaguely accurate' will be good enough for me for the moment :)
