Aer Lingus v Ryanair

    I just heard on the news taht Aer Lingus are dismissing all their cabin crew and re hiring some at lower wages... Karma? When I worked for Ryanair we used to get loads of abuse from A L staff about what a sh1t employer Ryanair was and how we'd be sacked at will. It never happened and my friends at Rynair are all very happy...

It never happened and my friends at Rynair are all very happy...

    They're also only getting the bare minimum redundancy package (two weeks per year). I'm glad I'll be working for Ryanair very soon, a financially stable airline who treats its workers better, despite what many people say.

    I think the deal is they can accept statutory or take the new pay and conditions. They are dealing with a German here and he will run rings around the impact union. The government are MIA so the union cant expect any help there. Id say a lot of the cabin crew will be on strike in the near future and that will possibly lead to the final demise of Aer Lingus.

    I think the deal is they were offered voluntary redundancy with 6 weeks pay per year of service.They rejected that deal so now the redundancies will be compulsary with 2 weeks pay per year of service. Most will be offered re-employment immediately but on lower pay and conditions.
    I have to think the staff who rejected this deal deserve the hardline approcah the airline is taking. Only one of 5 unions rejected the deal. The money has got to come from somewhere and voluntary redundancies and payfreezes were not to much to be asking.

    I hope a minority of staff unprepared to do the right thing in order to save hundreds of jobs won't be able to bring down an airline and hold management & the paying public,with the threat of strike action, to ransom anymore.

    No, they are sacking all cabin staff. Then they will re-hire three quarters of them.

    Im delighted to see Aer Lingus has taken a stand and made the decision to ony give the compulsory redundancies statutory rates given they rejected a rather attractive alternative.

    Maybe Aer Lingus are turning a corner for the better?

    Thats funny,as I understand it both sets of cabin crew go from their HQs to their aircraft so would never actually meet each other. I have seen the EI crew walking out and the FR crew getting bussed out. (Strange that EI don't bus their crew! Where do they come from?) So when exactly did the EI cabin crew give abuse to FR crew. Or was it EI airport staff who work near (sometimes right beside) to the FR airport staff that you remember doing so?

    And I'm sure 10-15 years ago the gap between the two employers was quite big,think it may well have narrowed quite a bit with all the cuts in EI since 9/11.
