Lovely! Great to see a prop in AL colours, I hope we see them in Dublin soon.
I was delighted to hear AL and Aer Arann were cozying up.
I think Ruinair were leaning on Aer Arann a bit so good to see them teaming up with AL.

What lens/lenses are you using? although it doesn't seem to matter, I've heard guys out at EIDW using L series lens saying the same thing.

I am only using a 350D (praying to the lotto gods for a 7D) and the same thing happens. Think you will find that a lot of DSLR's are like that. Digital photography was designed with post editing in mind anyway and there is quite a bit you can do in photoshop and the like.

Why is the Tri-colour reversed on the starboard side? I know that Dave has no picture of that side but it was brought up on another site and I hadn't noticed it.

Its common practise among airlines to 'fly the flag' as if it was on a flagpole with the wind blowing from the nose of the a/c, thus one side will always be reversed. I actually thought the EI themselves didn't follow this protocol.

Problem with reversing the Irish flag is some people might think it's an Ivory Coast aircraft. :p

so whats the deal here, are they for internal flights only or what? what routes will they be doing?

    Quote:
Aer Arann Signs Franchise Agreement with Aer Lingus.
Tuesday January 26th 2010: Aer Arann and Aer Lingus have today announced that agreement has been reached to establish a franchise arrangement between the two airlines.

Under this franchise agreement Aer Arann will operate 12 routes from Dublin and Cork . The routes will include current Aer Lingus and Aer Arann routes as well as 3 new routes.

These franchise services will be branded as “Aer Lingus Regional” and operated using Aer Arann ATR 72-500 aircraft and crew. All franchise flights will be sold and distributed through www.aerlingus.com . Aer Arann will assume full operational and commercial responsibility for the services covered by the franchise agreement with Aer Lingus receiving a franchise fee in recognition for providing its brand and product suite to Aer Arann.

The new agreement significantly increases Aer Lingus presence in the Ireland-UK market with new services to Ireland from Bristol , Blackpool, Cardiff , Doncaster/Sheffield, Durham , Glasgow and Edinburgh in addition to new seasonal services from Cork to Jersey in the Channel Islands and La Rochelle in France.

Welcoming the new agreement Aer Lingus Chief Executive Mr. Christoph Mueller said

“This franchise agreement is good news for all stakeholders in Aer Lingus as it will allow us to serve key regional destinations, linking them with our Dublin transatlantic network as well as offering our business and leisure customers improved schedule and frequency options.”

Aer Arann Chief Executive Mr. Paul Schütz also welcomed the agreement calling it “a major development for Irish aviation and the tourism industry. The combined strengths of both airlines, including brand power and market presence, will allow us to offer a quality customer product that meets the capacity requirements of existing and new routes.

Aer Arann is a leading regional airline that is wholly-owned by its Chairman, Padraig O'Ceidigh. In addition to operating routes for Aer Lingus Regional the airline will continue to operate under its own Aer Arann brand on routes within Ireland , from Ireland to the UK and France and from the Isle of Man to London and Paris .

I have an ambition to fly for Aer Arann, having them painted in Aer Lingus colours only reinforces that ambition.

Aer Arann = Aer Lingus Commuter reinvented.

As for the flag well it's correct on Aer Lingus not so on Ryanair. The protocol is that the green should be on the left as seen by the viewer. This is general throughout the world when it comes to flag display. Thus Aer Lingus is correct as is the flag painted on the particular aircraft I fly. However in the US and other countries the rules stipulate that the the flag should be depicted on aircraft as if it was flying free. The same applies to US flags on military uniforms so that badges worn on the right arm are effectively reversed. Each country has it's own rules or lack thereof. The Irish Air Corps also ignore the protocol but the military can do that.

I don't think anyone will confuse our flag with the ivory coast.

Just in time for the start of the franchise operation tomorrow.......Malcolm Nason captured the 4th ATR (EI-REP) lifting out of SNN.

Anyone know will they use 'Aer Arann' or 'Shamrock' callsign for ATC purposes? The pilots are RE but the flight numbers are EI?
