I am about to take the plunge and get rid of NTL for a Humax Foxsat HD PVR. I know I'll still need an aerial to receive the RTE channels but how does this DiSEqC work with the Humax as 'er indoors would like some Italian channels along with the Freesat stuff?

Can anyone explain in dummy-English exactly how this DiSEqC thing works? Do I need a special aerial or a motorised dish? I'm new to this stuff so go easy :D

You don't need to go down the motorised route, and the Humax isn't particularly suited to moving a dish in any case. You require a setup which can switch between the UK channels on 28E and the Italian channels on 13E.

You need a 90cm dish, 2 LNBFs, a multi-bracket and a DISEQC switch. The DISEQC switch will allow the receiver to automatically switch from LNBF1 pointing at 28E (English channels) to LNBF2 pointing at 13E (Italian). When finished it should look something like this:

And you can access the DISEQC menu in the HDR as follows:

Thanks for the reply - would an 80cm dish be up to the job?
Richersounds and Amazon are doing the Humax 350GB PVR for 239 (sterling).
