Am I a cheapskate? Bridesmaid dresses €15?

    Hi there,

My sister who is going to be my bridesmaid came across 2 satin effect full length dresses in a shop..they are the exact color I had in mind (Caramel/Mocha/dark gold) but the back is elasticated (e.g they come in medium and large). I suppose this is a giveaway that it is cheap?

Anyway she tried it on and it looks fine on her (bar it needs to be ironed), however not stunning, and could be very nice if accesorised properly, however it is quite plain. Now I will have to see if the other one fits the other bridesmaid and if she like is but generally she is easily pleased. Plus my sister hates shopping and it is very hard to get an idea of a dress when they are not in her size..

What do people think? Was I being too cheap? Should I book another day dress shopping and revert to them if we cant get anything? I think i would be fine about it if it wanst for the elastic back?

    Any opinions?

    Thanks in advance...

T'is your day. I've seen many a bridesmaid in TK Maxx or Penneys clothing. If they look OK then that's good enough. No one will be paying that much attention to them (no offence to any bridesmaids).

You could always jazz it up with a shrug or something.

Maybe get the dresses and spend a little bit getting them fitted properly and jazzed up?
I'm sure a good sewing fitter type person (what are they called?seamstress?) could make a "meh" dress into a "wowee" dress and wouldn't cost the earth.

Thanks for all the replys guys! I have decided to jazz them up wit a bit of lace and as long as the girls are happy with them, thank my blessings and be delighted with my savings! And if they don't like them I can always wear one myself and the other one will fit my sister for a ball or any other do she might have!

Thanks a mill for all the positive reply's..

    Have a good weekend..

    ;)

If the only thing you don't like is the back I'm sure that could be changed to an open corset-style back easily enough by some handy sewing relatives or a local seamstress. They might be able to add one or two finishing touches that make them look really unique (i.e. not recognizable as cheap) and special as well - like a trim or a corsage.
