Anyone know how much it will cost to get a new extractor fan installed?

Have one in bathrooom at minute which isnt working so need to get it either repaired or else get a new one.

Have major dampness problems in the bathroom so am considering getting a new one installed.

have looked at some of the threads here on dampness and I have all the same problems: Paint peeling, bubbling, mould growing etc.

Even when the extractor fan worked (on ceiling) i still had the problem.

need to eliminate things before i solve the problem so defo need the fan to be working before i tackle the walls and ceiling.:)

    Thanks!

Its unusual they dont work especially your house does not seem old. Is there a chance that it was not switched on at times and mould has been allowed to develop.

Its easy to change an extractor. But i wonder do you really need to

You may need one with a higher volume. Sometimes a centrifugal fan may help, especially if there's a long duct to outside.

    Thanks lads for the replies.

Ya its an apt on 1st floor. about 6 years old. It did work up until a few months ago but as i say there had been condensation/dampness probs already

I think you are bang on - at times the fan wasnt switched on thus the problem has got worse. perhaps it is a loose connection. i took the cover off it yesterday but havent a clue so didnt really want to go messing with electrics etc.

as regards the duct there is a vent above the bathroom window which i can from outside of apt so it shouldnt have to travel very far at all ( i'm assuming its connected up to this!?)

From fan location to external wall is less than the length of the bath.

If you're replacing it you can get ones with a humidistat rather than a timer which might help.
