Looking for almond / flax products (low carb)

    Hey folks!

I started the carb-down phase of a carb-cycling diet yesterday, and I think I shouldn't have a problem with lunches and dinners. Breakfasts will probably be a problem, as I'm used to cereals, or toast. I've picked up some pretty good recipes for muffins, pancakes, bread etc that use almond, or flax based flours, but I can't find them in the local supermarket.

Does anyone know where I can get these in the Dublin area? If not, perhaps ready-made products based on these?

    Thanks in advance!

Almond meal or flour is in the baking section of most supermarkets. If necessary, throw some flaked almonds into your blender or grinder and blitz them till they are powdery.

Same with flaxmeal. It's easily available, but you'll save a ton of money by buying flaxseeds (brown is cheapest) and just grinding/blending it yourself. It keeps better in seed form. Once it's ground, you should keep it in the fridge.

You won't get many products made up based on them, and the ones that exist cost a fortune.

By the way, something like eggs or cottage cheese are a great low carb breakfast.

    Many thanks EileenG!

I managed to find ground almonds tucked away in the baking section. Didn't see any flaxmeal, or flax seeds, but I'll take a look in some other supermarkets for them next time I do a big shop.

I was going to use eggs as a last resort for breakfast, as I plan on going the fritatta route for lunch a few days a week. Good call on the cottage cheese!

The flaxmeal might be in the "healthy" section, along with rice cakes and soy milk. Or any health food shop will have it. It's not hard to get.
