Thank you Wigan!! Great result and I think everyone except Liverpool fans wanted that scoreline!

I see we have Chelsea, arsenal, and Man Utd 3 weeks in a row in April, that's going to be tough for us.

I've always thought April would define our push for 4th. If we're up for the challenge, we should be getting points at home to both Arsenal & Cheslea. Realistically we'll need to win one if not both, considering we're also away to Utd which is a guaranteed loss, regardless of whether we play them at home or away!

April is when the team needs to stand up and be counted.

Great result last night for Spurs. Liverpool have it all to do to make the Champions league next season. And lets face it they do not deserve it. They are a shadow of the team they were last year.

I agree with Tippspur and SuprSi that April will determine our season. But the fixture list could get even worse. If we beat Fulham in the cup replay then our game on April 10 will be moved (home to Ar$$nal)- it would now have to be played midweek. Also the Man City away fixture has let to be agreed on. I don't think they can play it next Wednesday as its too soon and the following Wed. is the cup replay. The week after that City have a game on Monday March 29th so the could not play again in midweek. Its looks like we may have to play City also in April and with a bit of luck an FA cup semi final.

Hopefully Hudd and Lennon will be back for (some of) those games.

So much to look forward to.

We still have it all to do realistically we need to average two points a game from here on in to get fourth so we'll have to win two out of the city, arsenal, chelsea, utd matches hopefully we can take 6-9 points there which would leave us in a fantastic position but we have a tough enough run in with the likes of stoke still to play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

Oh ya I also just noticed we have the fourth best defense in the league, us spurs:eek:

    Great result for us,

I can see us doing well in April, I predict 5 or even 6 points from the 3 in a row but equally u can see us pissing it away after that.

i also noticed this, usually we dont even finish up with a positive goal difference yet here we are with 50 goals scored and a mean defense. i think gomes and dawson are to thank for a lot of that by the way.

great result for us last night. villa are away to stoke and city away to sunderland. if they both dropped points and we won it would be good for us especially with all our injuries

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

I can't see city dropping points there though!

I'm only afraid that beating fulham might actually distract us from this race to 4th.

IF and thats a big if we got fourth place anyone else think it would be worth a cheeky bid for Torres;) obviously a bit more depth in midfield is a priority but a better player then crouch is needed up top someone who can put the ball in the net.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭mickman

ha ha - you must be joking . torres will cost 50 milion + and we dont have that kind of money, nor would we be able to pay his wages. if he leaves it will be back to spain id say

doubt if the referee will be the problem - Blackburn are poor - more if we are up for it ala Everton.

He has been a problem before, but hopefully a good positive performance will see us get 3pts.

saw this a few mins ago. dont know how true it is though

Hudd progressing really well, even a possibility he could make the weekend’s squad, will let you all know tomorrow.
Lennon is feeling positive, and is now healing well.
Woodgate still in America, has been away for nearly 2 months now.
Bentley back running, also could be in contention for the weekend.

    Good news if true.

Good day today with us winning and Villa dropping points. I reckon Sunderland can get at least a point v Manc tomorrow. can't see the Poo dropping points v Pompey on Monday though.

    Orange pilled.

I dunno I reckon Portsmouth have one big result in them.

Sometimes dead teams like that pull one out of the bag, we might get lucky.

    Makes a big difference,

    Well done to Sunderland.

    Who is their GIH against?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 858 ✭✭✭RichMc70

Great results for us so far this weekend. Let's hope Pool slip up again tomorrow night to make it complete.

Fourth spot is still too early to call at this stage, other than it's a battle between 4 teams. Spurs, City, Pool and Villa.

The pundits keep saying that Spurs have the hardest run in out of the four but IMO, after looking at the other three teams remaining fixtures, I don't think that any side has strongger advantage than the other. I thinks its come down to a bit of luck and pure bottle on the part of the team that gets it.

It's gonna go to the wire and let's just hope we are in control of our own destiny come the 9th May.

    COYS

Hmmm, I'd think everton could have anyone on their day.

Interesting time ahead, maybe someone could stick up the 4 teams remaining fixtures and we have a look?

I'd do it but I'm on the mobile site.

Spurs have 3 home games and 6 away left (how did that happen?); City 6 home and 4 away; Lpool 5 home (4 of which are very winnable); Villa have the easiest run-in.
Trying to be as unbiased as possible, this is how I think it will finish up:

    Final Table after 38 games:

    Villa 66pts
    Lpool 65 pts
    Spurs 64pts
    City 62pts

(That's giving Spurs 5 away draws - Stoke, Sunderland, Chelsea, City and Burnley - and a loss at Old Trafford. At home, 2 wins - Bolton and Portsmouth - and a draw - ar5ena1).

An away win or two instead of the draw would put us into 4th.

no point in making these predictions people. we can beat anyone on our day even arsenal and chelsea especially having them at home. we could also get killed in all of them. its impossible to predict with any near certainty how the top 7 will finish. great battle for first to third and an even better one for fourth

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭tippspur

4-1win for Liverpool tonight,I really think that Portsmouth don't give a **** about the League now cos they know they are going to be relegated,They are putting all there efforts into the FA cup that's for sure and if we get past Fullham we're going to have it tough against them because they are really going to be up for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,951 ✭✭✭SuprSi

    I know there's hardly any point, but based on the remaining fixtures this is how I see it panning out;

    Man City : 50 + 18 = 71
    Liverpool : 51 + 18 = 69
    Villa : 46 + 17 = 66
    Spurs : 52 + 13 = 65
    Everton : 42 + 21 = 63

Naturally enough anything could happen, but we have the toughest run-in and I just feel the way the games have panned out that City will be battling Liverpool until the last day and we'll be out of the running by the end of April :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

I'm afraid I have to agree,

Of course anyone really could hit the right fourm and get 4th but I think we will be out of it with3 or 4 games to go.

Still hell of a season IMO if we finished 6th and hopefully the FA cup.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,951 ✭✭✭SuprSi

Bad result for us, Villa nicking the 3 points away to Wigan. They've two home games coming up, Hull and Sunderland or something like that, so they'll be thinking 6 points from those. Big, big match this weekend for us, where most of the other challengers have dropped points.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,038 ✭✭✭slegs

To have any chance we have to win the next 3 and take at least 4 points out of the Chelsea/United/Arsenal games. Probably too much to ask but stranger things have happened.

I just noticed on the offical Spurs site that the Man City game is now re scheduled for Wed May 5th 8:00 k/o. That would be our second last game of the season. 4th place playoff perhaps?
