Does anyone know what the new aerials apearing on houses are. They look like a "v" lying on its side up on a pole. I see the all over ashbourne.

I am guessing its some kind of broadband connection but it seems to be down very low.

Sounds like one of the types UPC use for MMDS around here.

They are known as "fin" or "duck aerials". They are just a low gain mmds antenna used in places, such as Rathangan, where the proximity to the transmitter is to high for the normal mesh type antennas. It has nothing to do with Broadband, just digital mmds tv.

Interesting. Is this new. I have never seen it before. If I now switched to chorus in duleek which is roughly 10miles from ashbourne will I get one of these new aerials or do I still need the mesh aerial.

I am half guessing your going to say have not the foggiests....

I must have installed hundreds of them for Chorus back in 2000/1, nothing new here.

Whether you get one or not depends on the signal level at your house that the installer can get. Most of the time installers would not carry those around or even be given them by stores. If the installer gets too strong a signal level with an ordinary mesh antenna he will simply turn the antenna away from the transmitter until the signal drops.

Amazing. thank you. I take it duleek would be too far to have the smaller one I am describing fitted.
