Do we need a chater here? if so what should be in it?.

Do we need sticky's and if so, which ones?

I feel a sticky on showers may be a good thing.

May I have your ideas please? :)

Thanks for that Quazzie. That saved me loads of work :)

However since site wide rules applied to here, I was thinking of specific things that may be unique to the Plumbing and Heating forum.

Thats why I put standard issue at the top. It covers the basics but specifics of the forum will be needed to be added by yourself and your co-mods and other regular contributors to the forum.

Best of luck with the forum btw.

I'd suggest not allowing posts detailing any aspects of gas work ,apart from general ones like carbon monoxide precautions and contact numbers for safety.

Saves Micky Dolenz having to warn people about RGI all the time.

Maybe have links to various safety webpages in the sticky. Along with directions to RGI lists and the oil equivalent.

    Laters:)

+1 on "no gas installiation advice allowed" bar the basics

So we'll have a RGI sticky about safety and what RGI actually is.

we will include a no discussion of gas repair or installation in the charter.

    good stuff, anything else?

May be in the RGI section you could distinguish between installers and service/repair Engineers?

What if someone asks about a specific boiler problem? Do you direct them to the RGI section?

I definitely think you should categorize the forum.

We will have a RGI sticky about what the law is. Distinguishing between installer and servicer is a good idea, although it will be up to the consumer to question the person they plan to hire.

If someone has a problem with a boiler, they can ask and they will be helped diagnosis problem but under no circumstances will be told how to fit parts/install applainces etc.

I'll leave this open and would love to hear anymore ideas, this is your forum after all.

    Thanks

Good idea, would be handy to have one of those stickys giving details on the obvious stuff, filling loop (picture) how to use, details on basic hot press set up, on / off valves and balancing valves, cylinder thermo, summer valve if fitted, motorized valves and so on.

Might be a good idea to include some details on air locks, and shower problems etc. Joey the lips is the man for showers, I have an old thread from the floods in Cork full of all kinds of info on air lock, might be handy to disect the old air lock thread and take any usefull info out of it.

Balancing a heating system is another, havent read all posts on this thread yet so might have mentioned same ideas over again.

    Sound.

Ok, will push on with this, will email RGII to get some official info.

If anyone wants to write a sticky (on any subject), do so here. We can move it and stick it once it is complete.

I was going to do a few links ,but what you are doing is best. Better to get info from the horses mouth ,I know SEI are very strict about what way they are affiliated and linked to.

Should make for a solid forum ,
Fair play to items aswell ,for asking for the forum and the detailed posts in the DIY forum.

    Ideas for sticky....

Cleaning out an easy clean trap.

Measuring for a shower door(Attached link)

    Selecting a shower (attached link)

Changing the revivers in a kitchen tap.

    Connecting a washing machine dishwasher.

Repressurising a boiler(think this is somewhere already)

    Selecting a shower valve.

Sounds good. I'll have a go at the kitchen tap one, can include standard basin / bath taps. I'll post it here when done.
