So heres the thing. I spent the majority of my time in work wishing that I was off doing something fun. Now that I'v finally been made unemployed I plan on making the most of it so im looking for a list ideas of things that I can do in and around ireland, the crazyier the better – anything from surfing in sligo to cliff jumping in howth, mountain climbing, busking in oconnell street, naked art class modeling .. anything at all!
I have a job lined up already in april so my time is limited so please get your ideas in so I can get to work making the most of my time off.

Have you ever considered a spot of hunting as a past-time until next April? Job-hunting specifically.

You can have all your fun when you hit 68 and you're no longer a danger to the public at large.

yep but its only a temporary thing as i start work again in five weeks. on that note though the cheaper the activity the better

Climb to top of the Spire and sit on it...now that would be an experience.

How about fishing with fivers. That seems to be great craic and as long as you tie your lures well it won't cost you a thing. The recession means there's lots more targets floating around the streets these days to play your game.

Maybe not the crazy activity your looking for but have a browse in your local volunteer centre www.volunteer.ie

You never know you might enjoy giving a day or two to a community and/or not-for-profit organisation.

Kill a cow. No one will care and it looks a good laugh.

Use fun things to do it, dont just go in with a gun. be creative.

All the threads today are about money and work!

I would advise taking it easy. You could read some books as well. Being able to sit around in the mornings drinking tea for 2-3 hours before the extreme toil of making breakfast is reward enough in itself. You can reform any opinions you have about anything.

You could visit your friends or go to the beach. I guess these aren't very "crazy" suggestions though.

ok maybe they dont have to be "crazy" but the more interesting the better

Don't be such a bitter begrudger. Do you really expect him/her to look for a job, go through the whole process for the sake of a week's work .

He/she asked for fun things to do for his/her couple of weeks off.

I say cycle from Malin Head to Mizen Head over the course of a week. Sounds like an adventure and a great challenge.

Five weeks eh, why not download copious volumes or pornographic and have a wankfest like the world has never seen before.

P.S. Five weeks will ensure you beat my record by about a day and a half.

also unemployed and also did lugnaquilla. its a tough one if the weather is ****, will be very cold up there at the minute. worth it though, views are incredible on a clear day. good waterproof boots are essential. muddy boggy land in a lot of parts.

do u have a car? if you do theres loads of random places you can go to pass your time.

the best thing to come from my unemployement was being so bored i joined a gym. lost a good bit of weight and feel a lot better. not exactly the excitement you're looking for though in 5 weeks!

Go to Prague or some other eastern european city for a week. Go on a Wednesday afternoon, after you have collected your spoils of course, until Tuesday evening.

Go shooting and sight seeing during the mornings. Drinking and eating during the afternoons and go rodgering during the night.

Dont forget the send Lenny and Cowen a wee postcard.

Oh just though of a excellent way for you to pass a week and its not to expensive. Go on a weeks sailing training in Glennans, Westport, Co.Mayo.
You'll learn a new skill, I'am assuming you don't already know how to sail, have great craic and get away from the hassles of modern life. I couldn't recommend it enough.
Their website seems to be playing up, so you may need to check it again in a few days, but they are a reputable crowd. I will warn you though accomadation out there is very basis, and I mean VERY basis.

Depending on where you live, you probably wont get the dole as the waiting list is nearly 3 months before your even considered to get it! but that depends where u live..

by the way, i think this is the prime oppertunity to get to know ireland better with a few friends, if i was u i would gather as many friends that wanted to go and go on a mad road trip! bring tents and cars and booze! weather is perfect for it!

For when you are not feeling ambitious about your goals for the day: tracksuit, bag of cans, pitch and putt. Bonus points if you are drunk before lunch.

Do something in the St Patrick's Day Parade, or hijack a float :D
Sponsored hair dye, wax, head shave for charity
Try and punch Jedward in their collective faces after their Olympia gigs

Srsly, here are free events for Dublin over next few weeks

Get a "Work is for Suckers!" tattoo on your forehead.
    This will have two results.
    1) It will give the Civil Servants in the Dole Office a good giggle, and 2) It will prolong your hiatus.

How about visiting some folk in hospital who have no family or friends to visit them.

There are charities that organise it.

You'd really be making a difference.

are you in the dublin area? theres an abundance of lovely places in the wicklow mountains, if you have a bike even better, great cycles to be had. its predictable but i do love a nice day in howth. go up killiney hill/bray head either.

head out of the city to places like carlingford in louth, newgrange if you like that sort of thing.

if you keep an eye out for ryanair deals you can do day trips.they had a deal where they paid the taxes and charges recently, i went to edinburgh and back the same day for 20quid.leave in the morning, back that night.you can do similar day trips on the ferry etc-alton towers is back open soon i think, great day out!

So far from all your suggestions (much appreciated i must add) then I would end up,

    • volunteering for charity,
    • mountain climbing,
    • cycling the lenght of ireland,
    • catching some waves off the coast of sligo,
    • Camp everywhere,
    • Learn to sail,
    • paint a muriel,
    • read some books
    • and hi-jack a paddys day parade float all the while being drunk and high on mushrooms
I hate the way there is nothing to do in ireland ;)

Any more suggestions. Keep em coming

You should try and learn something in your 5 weeks like the bones of a language or one song on a guitar.
