looking at monster they want €8,500 for searching cv's for the year, Fas have hardly any cv's 2004 for the whole country??, tried advertising in the papers got a very bad response it was a complete waste of money. So where's all these unemployed people who can't find work, I can't find them:confused:

Where do you look for staff, it's a small business I can't afford to pay monster prices to find staff?

Depends on the industry your recruiting in?

jobs.ie and irishjobs.ie will charge you at least a few hundred quid each to put up the ad and loads more to search through their database.

The first place you could post is over in the Work/Jobs forum here.. from the charter..
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=10
    2. Job Advertising
Recruitment Agencies are not permitted to use boards.ie as a platform to advertise their positions. We do however encourage fellow boards.ie users to highlight positions available in their own organisation. When posting a job that you know is available, please include

    - Location
    - Job Spec
    - Renumeration package (even if its just reference)
    - Qualifications (or experience) prefered

I mean in this kind of market you really only have to put the job spec and application details up on a website, spend a morning telling people about it and all of a sudden you'll be dealing with hundreds of applicants.

For that reason, I'd recommend that you are very specific when you're writing the job spec, to discourage people from applying that will just get rejected at the first pass anyways - less admin work for you overall.

Fair play to you taking people on!

+1 - ...and on the level of expertise.

I've found good managerial people by posting jobs on Linkedin. I think you can go down the dole office/jobcentre (or is it FAS?) too & ask them.

Have you tried http://www.adverts.ie/?v Has your company a website on which you can post them?

What kind of position are you recruiting for?

it's retail believe it our not, finding it impossible to find staff, went into fas and they told me to look on line at the cv's they had 18 for the whole county, the social welfare tell me there's over 2000 people on the live register where i'm trying to find staff.

I really thought fas would have more peoples cv's I could look through.

For a small business i advise registering with the FAS website, its free and registration is simple enough, you will have an ongoing account and can posts as many positions as you want.

Gumtree: I have my own humble opinion on this site, it would seem to me its not the place to be advertising serious Jobs, most of the adverts are from people seeking work and a few cowboy recruitment agencies list there as well. You could try it but make sure your advert is very specific to your requirements.

You mentioned Monster, its pretty dreadful unless you have a degree in IT, trying to use this site is a complicated chore and compared to other Job sites, its not very proactive in Ireland.

Goggle search will give you an indication of the top ranking sites so perhaps it may be worth exploring placing an one advert to see what feedback you get.

As for recruitment Agencies (I'll be diplomatic), its an extremely expensive way to source staff and with no guarantee's. As a small business you should be assuming the HR function to manage costs.

Of course all of the above is dependent on what sector your recruiting.

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

Surely to God putting a prominent notice in your shop window or telling everyone you know to tell everyone they know to submit their CV would to the trick?!

I'm looking for a few staff for different stores, not possible to put the notice in the windows for all of them.

Just called Fas in dublin saying I can't get through to there local offices, turns out there on a work to rule not answering the phone, countrys fupped. It's hard to believe fas are acting like this in a recession.

From what you've said, it seems like you are trying to recruit experienced retail staff in provincial towns.

The fact that you can't get people through FAS, or job websites... well that's newsworthy. Call the local paper in each town and ask to speak to whoever is on the business beat, and tell them that you can't get staff, and do they want to do a story on it?

(maybe approach a paper that you have advertised with in the past or intend to in the future)

It's a complete disgrace and such an Irish mentality - let's dig our heels in and cripple progress just cos I am p*ssed at the government! Complete lack of imagination and like a child throwing their toys out of the pram.

Hope you get through and give them a piece of your mind. Disgraceful behaviour.

Anyway, that's off topic. Would be worth posting your openings up on Facebook and the likes - great way of spreading the word and you might get some good CVs/candidates that way.

    hey OP

Good avise re newspaper especially for regional.

Give your existing staff the €€ for finding someone - actually give them half the money on hire, half if the person still with you in 6 months.

Put a flyer in every bag with the amount your willing to pay as a Voucher to use in your store (less cost to you) if practical....

Poster/flyers at dole office/post office, again especially if regional towns.....

Commit on whatever medium you use to respond one way or the other within 24/48 hours as I find this sort of commitment helps dramatically - obviously then live up to this.

Monster - WOW they really have not got a grip on the whole, theres a global recession going on thing!

I got a deal before from Hall recruitment, 300euro + VAT and the job went up on 3 sites, as far as I remember monster, irishjobs cant remember the last one. I got loads of cv's though, so I recommend you go with that. The deal was the recruitment company wont screen the cv's just send them all onto you.

Text into a few of the radio do-gooders like joe duffy, ray darcy etc saying you cant find candidates for jobs, they'll give it a bit of airtime as it'll fill a few minutes gap and you'll get a massive exposure. Think someone did this on darcys show a few weeks back and he got a lot of interest.
