Weston - Planning Permission, proposed changes etc.

    Hey there,

    Just looking for some info on this, I don't want to ruffle any feathers etc.

    I've read a fair bit online about various planning permissions issues with Weston; applications made, objections, high court cases etc. But it's hard to get it all in order chronologically etc.

    Could anyone here let me know the following information :

    1. What work is Weston Airport trying to do exactly ( lengthening the runway, installing PAPI etc. etc. )?

    2. What is the current status of this proposed work ( is it dead in the water, waiting permission etc. )?

    I'm going my PPL in Weston and I'm just curious about what the situation is! Thanks...

    It was all in last month's Fly In Ireland magazine if you can get your hands on one.

    Generally though everything is blocked as much as possible by the local councils who seem to have a petty vendetta against Weston. Ask yourself have you ever seen one of those brown signs or a road sign directing people to Weston? No you haven't and you won't even though every B&B and pokey little attraction in Dublin and Kildare has one. The biggest GA airfield in the country and one of the busiest airports remains anonymous. It's busier than most regional airports yet the authorities only interest seems to be in shutting it down.

    Weston's actually the second busiest airport in the country after Dublin, if based on aircraft movements!
